Re: The 2002 Poyferre has been opened.....
Saved a glass for this evening and she's a beauty. Very little decline suggesting continued positive evolution. However, I will say that I enjoy the wine's recent profile so I plan to consume the remaining few over the near term.

My wine appreciation goes back to the early 80s' but I can't think of a better four-year stretch for red Bordeaux. Thoughts and opinions welcome....

I bought these from PC...what a deal. It is a beautiful wine that is ready to drink but with plenty of life, depending on your maturity preference. On point with a classic profile...a Bordeaux lovers wine. This is my sweet spot; medium...ish maturity. Elegance and beauty and why I drink Bordeaux.

Beautiful robe, dark garnet...no bricking evident. Nose a bit tight so I'll report back after some time. Serving this with a pan-seared skirt steak, wild rice and sautéed baby bok choy.

I voted Burgundy but drink a lot of Italian wine. Another interesting poll would be to vote on the top three grapes.

Re: More 2017 Commentary
Thanks all. I am going to stay with 2014. I like the freshness with medium plus ripeness and the fact that you can enjoy these wines in the near, medium and long term. Besides, I am getting too old for this sh*t. Of course, I will buy some 2015's...maybe '16's and...oh well, I guess I'll buy some '1...
Re: Threesome
The Tour de Mons wasn't dusty at all. Nice classic nose (a touch of VA), a solid core of red and black fruits and a mineral finish. A solid wine for the money and will keep nicely as it took a couple of hours to express itself. Even then, there was a lot in reserve...I'll purchase another and report...
Re: Threesome
I think I paid $21.99. There might be better wine for the price but I wanted to get a feel for Margaux in 2015. If this is representative of the vintage, I am a buyer.
Re: Threesome
The 2015 Tour de Mons was very good. A bit of old school from a wine maker unafraid of a touch of VA. A Costco purchase that may require another visit.

Re: Poll: Have alcohol levels risen because of Robert Parker?
An interesting question. Parker stressed ripeness so much that it would be impossible not to see an increase in alcohol levels in order to attain higher scores. That being said, the climatic cycle has allowed for late harvests in much of Europe for many years. Parker's influence on wine making can n...

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker "Good" or "Bad" for Bordeaux?
Parker influenced the wine world in a positive way that improved quality, selection and avoidance of heat damage in the supply chain. That's it, IMHO. If it stopped there, I would have voted yes. However, his influence at the tasting table produced homogenous wines that required the grower/producer ...

Altitude always makes it tough for me when tasting wine...perhaps it is just me, but nuance and aromatics are a bit muted when I am in places above 5,000 feet, especially during colder weather. However, I promise to make it regardless of venue.

I am a Vinous subscriber and was surprised to see the "entering peak drinkability" phrase. But, that is a matter of preference. We like red Burgundy with a secondary and tertiary profile so I will wait a few more years to open the '99 Premier and Grand Cru wines we have cellared. Not long ...

Thanks for starting this....the downsizing thread is an extension, for me. My last deep purchase in Bordeaux was 2005. I bought a few 2009 and less 2010 and now focus on vintages like 01, 02, 06, 08, 12 and 14. The 2014 Bordeaux that I have tasted make me very happy as I have found this to be a hybr...

I also gave up on WA...12 years ago, I think. Lack of substance and appreciation for food while demanding homogeny. The new writing seems to continue that method....way too commercial and a ham-handed extract above modeled to attract as many people as possible to the 2015 vintage. Sigh....sticking w...

Nic, it was really a super bottle. Red-fruited and so elegant. I don't watch for price appreciation in our cellar but I must admit that I was shocked at the high prices these wines are achieving. Re: Downsizing
I plan to skip 2015 and purchase only three mixed cases of 2016's. While I haven't tasted any 2015's, my reading has left me with the opinion that I own enough of this vintage style in the '05's and '10's that I own. Of course, my fondness for Domaine de Chevalier will most likely get me to buy 6 or...

I too really liked this wine but feel it needs time. We drank it with a mildly-spiced pork posole. A bit too primary for me on day one, but one day three (corked on the counter) it drank beautifully. Holding my remaining bottles for a couple of years and then re-visit.

Parker's best contribution to wine
Stashing some lovely 2014 Bordeaux in the cellar today and, for some reason, I thought about what Parker did for wine. I am not a fan of homogeny in wine making (his worst contribution) but transport and storage conditions certainly improved while he was an influencer early in his career. It was Ker...

Count me in as a lover of Muscadet. We opened a magnum of the 2004 Pepiere Briordes VV a few weeks back. Lovely, mineral-laden wine with citrus and flower aromas. Thirst quenching wine that was great on its own on a hot summers day.

It would be interesting to ask Anthony Barton this question. As a very candid wine maker, I doubt we would be surprised by his answers. On a personal note, I agree with this assessment. How many times I have been turned off by the over-everything that Bordeaux produced over a span of some 25 years o...

My interest in this campaign is massively starting to wane.
