Re: Pre-mox: is it safe to buy white burgs again?

Well I have still kept buying white Burgs BUT I have limited the growers. There are several growers completely off my list. Yet there are several that I never had a randox bottle from. So I have just bought a big parcel of Remoissenets (20 cases) which I'm going to share with a few locals. I don't a...

Re: Uncontroversial: 2000-2009 the greatest decade of Bdx

In counting, a decade is the 1st to 1oth year thus a decade would be 2001 to 2010, not 00 to 09 In any case, I am sticking to 81 to 1990 as the best of my lifetime. 84 and 87 were ordinary but the others were all very good to outstanding. I don't accept that any recent vintage is better than 82 and ...

Re: Is wine from the Eurozone (and elsewhere) about to get cheap

The present debt problems in Greece, Portugal, Spain et al will have a nasty impact on wine as it is one of the most sensitive industries to swings. It may help the consumer in the short term but it will lead to alot of pain and closures, and quality will fall as bodegas economise or merge. Spain ha...

I also have a pretty well trained technical palate having done work with research institutes over the years. I have never had an ov...

Re: 1996 Pichon Lalande Pauillac

Guys Being in Singapore, it could have been heat affect allong the way. The colour was not a problem- the mahogany is a tone I notice in Bordeaux of this colour - not brown/orange at all. Yet Brett is not "caused" by storage - it does make it worse though, and maybe it was just a bad case....

Re: The Greatest Vintage of My Lifetime

Guys Don't drink a lot of German Riesling - but the best Australian Riesling vintage I've ever had is 2009. As for others, I'd say: Bordeaux 1982 (OK have little 1961 experience and 05 is too young). 82 is to my palate better and/or more consistent than other famed vintages like 86, 89, 90, 96, 2000...

1996 Pichon Lalande Pauillac

I had this at a friend's place after a number of white wines. The colour was a nice dark mahongany red - there is a characteristic colour of Medocian reds at middle age - no overt browing, just the red changing to a mahogany hue. Anyway, the nose screamed out Brett, and I have to say my mood dropped...

Guys, I've had the 88 Gruaud Larose on numerous occasions over the last 15 years. Re: Bordeaux sure has changed: Meyney 1986

Guys, The vintages of the 90s were not great for Meyney. I tried the 90s wines at a tasting several years ago and have not consider...
