Guys
On a slightly different ote, someone posted a link to youtube in January I think which had Mick taylor playing Gimme Shelter live with the Stones.
Can't seem to find it now - does anyone have the link??

Re: Pre-mox: is it safe to buy white burgs again?
Well I have still kept buying white Burgs BUT I have limited the growers. There are several growers completely off my list. Yet there are several that I never had a randox bottle from. So I have just bought a big parcel of Remoissenets (20 cases) which I'm going to share with a few locals. I don't a...

Re: Uncontroversial: 2000-2009 the greatest decade of Bdx
In counting, a decade is the 1st to 1oth year thus a decade would be 2001 to 2010, not 00 to 09 In any case, I am sticking to 81 to 1990 as the best of my lifetime. 84 and 87 were ordinary but the others were all very good to outstanding. I don't accept that any recent vintage is better than 82 and ...

Re: Is wine from the Eurozone (and elsewhere) about to get cheap
The present debt problems in Greece, Portugal, Spain et al will have a nasty impact on wine as it is one of the most sensitive industries to swings. It may help the consumer in the short term but it will lead to alot of pain and closures, and quality will fall as bodegas economise or merge. Spain ha...

Guys The wine was bretty, not corked or cooked. I've been drinking Bordeaux for about 35 years and have drunk heaps of vintages of Pichon lalande covering four decades. I also have a pretty well trained technical palate having done work with research institutes over the years. I have never had an ov...

Re: 1996 Pichon Lalande Pauillac
Guys Being in Singapore, it could have been heat affect allong the way. The colour was not a problem- the mahogany is a tone I notice in Bordeaux of this colour - not brown/orange at all. Yet Brett is not "caused" by storage - it does make it worse though, and maybe it was just a bad case....

I find 06 hard to characterise as a vintage.
Seems quite variable - and I wonder if it is a winemaker's vintage if you know what I mean.

Re: The Greatest Vintage of My Lifetime
Guys Don't drink a lot of German Riesling - but the best Australian Riesling vintage I've ever had is 2009. As for others, I'd say: Bordeaux 1982 (OK have little 1961 experience and 05 is too young). 82 is to my palate better and/or more consistent than other famed vintages like 86, 89, 90, 96, 2000...

1996 Pichon Lalande Pauillac
I had this at a friend's place after a number of white wines. The colour was a nice dark mahongany red - there is a characteristic colour of Medocian reds at middle age - no overt browing, just the red changing to a mahogany hue. Anyway, the nose screamed out Brett, and I have to say my mood dropped...

Guys I've had the 01 Giscours on one occasion, and I picked it up cheap at auction thus not sure of the provenance. Guys it has been several years since I've had the 85 but it was a lovely wine, with heaps of red and black fruits. Agree it was low in acid, though not too low. I think it was drinking very well from 2000 to 2005, and won't get better. The 86 is on the other hand a more tannic, adicid and concentrat...

Stefan, Despite variability, I've been a long standing fan of 2000 as well - and over the last year some of the nicest wines I've had were 00 Burgundies such as those from Grivot, Castagnier, Groffier and Faiveley. Putting cynicism about what's for sale aside, I have not bought 07 reds but the white...

Guys I may even start importing wine into Singapore. Wine is really expensive there - the taxes are at a litre rate (more for sparking wine) which is pretty strange. Not tired the Olivier Leflaive wines from 07 but this is a long way in quality from Domaine Leflaive.
Only buy if you either like their style or have tried them.
I generally find them to be rather characterless.

Moving to Singapore
Folks,
As you may be aware I'm in Sydney.
I am moving indefinitely to Singapore this week.
Jennifer and the cats are already there and I'll be glad to get out of here - using a camp bed and have only a few bare essentials in the place.
Are there any other BWE'ers in Singapore??

Guys, I've had the 88 Gruaud Larose on numerous occasions over the last 15 years. Last was a year ago, and the tannins were largely resolved, but for my palate, maybe it was a bit too funky and earthy? I tried it first in 1996 and as a young wine, it was tannic and brooding with a distinct tobacco l...

Gary I drank 2 cases of the 1985 Gruaud Larose and really liked it. Okay, all gone by 2000 or so, I happily glugged it away from 1995 onwards and loved it. It was never a big wine, and not the old fashioned GL style like the 86 or 88. Medium weight only, with a complex yet lightish mouthfeel. Funny ...

I drank the 85 several times in the late 90s, early 00s, and liked it a lot without it ever blowing me away. Re: Bordeaux sure has changed: Meyney 1986
Guys, The vintages of the 90s were not great for Meyney. I think it can be put down to financial issues with the owners - Cordier were forced to sell Gruaud larose for example, and their negociant business was not doing well. I tried the 90s wines at a tasting several years ago and have not consider...
