Re: 2020 Pontet Canet and 2019 d'Armailhac at RED Steakhouse here in Cleveland.
Jim I have not tried the 2020 PC though I did try many other wines from that vintage over the last year or so. They were so good I busted my promise not to buy any more en primeur stock. The initial impressions of 2020 can be a little misleading. They are very fruity and balanced thus quite easy to ...

For such a wine now aged 35 years I suppose that $407 is quite reasonable. Sorry I did not buy last year - could have got a good but. Oh well.

Guys The TL was well balanced and the L’arossee seemed disjoint. I’m getting rather sensitive to acid - not surprising given an increasingly long list of internal issues - though Wendy will say it’s fine and I’ll be overpowered by it. I’d also say that St Estephe has improved out of sight in recent ...

A St Emilion and a St Estephe.
2009 L’arrosse St Emilion Moderate dark red colour, slightly fluid rim. Nose was savoury with dried herbs, red and dark fruit and a touch of French oak. Palate was a bit disjoint tonight. The acid was too firm and dominated the moderate fruit. Plums, dark fruit an a touch of raspberry plus some oak,...

Alex I wonder though if there has been some bottle variation, or is it just ageing? I bought a case of both 2000 and 2001 en primeur. I wasn't keen on the 2001, and the few drank several years ago were too herbaceous and minty for moi. It was quite tannic from memory but not overly so. I can cope wi...

Ian Sorry the 83 Margaux was corked, and the 89 LMHB seemed out of shape some how. I bought 81, 82 and 83 Margaux plus a few lesser vintages at auction in the dreaded recession in Australia (1990 to about 94/95) and importers, wholesalers and retailers were going broke. I wish I could buy them now a...

Re: Crab is back, white wines to be opened!
Nic Forget the Chablis unless it is from a really top producer, and get a decent white Burgundy like a Corton Charlemagne or 1er Cru from Puligny, Chassagne or Meursault that shows some minerality. With crab or lobster or shrimps/prawns I nearly always drink white Burgs or a top Australian Chardy fr...

Guys I'm not arguing about one wine or the other, but 2020 is stunning in St Emilion and Pomerol. I did the Union tasting here in Singapore last year and the wines were delicious young. Izak Many thanks for the notes. I think that your general comments on the vintage concur with most reasoned reports. Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?
Folks I was debating whether to respond to this, as I see a lot of both positives and negatives. Yet for Bordeaux as a region, Parker introduced many people to the region, and his writings, particularly the earlier books, notes and stories, really helped Bordeaux commercially. I have to say that the...

I have both 2019 and 2020 Giscours and hope they will develop well.
The 2005 is quite a fruit bomb and somehow I expected the 09 to be similar. It was however a nice wine but a bit shy.
Time will tell.

Guys Over the years I have somehow come to like the wines of St Emilion more though that is with a grain of salt as some wines have become too alcoholic and heavy. Some of the St E's from the 80's were outstanding but the 90's (except 90 and 98) was not a great decade for the region. So given a forc...

Despite my ramblings about no more EP buys I just ordered 8 2020 Bordeaux:
Beausejour St Emilion
Tour St Christophe St E
Bellefont Belcier St E
Rausan Segla Margaux
Giscours Margaux
Cantenac Brown Margaux
Branaire Ducru St Julien
Langoa Barton St Julien
Either 3 or 6 of each.
Cheers

Guys I’ve done several 2019 tastings over the last few years and I’ve rarely been as positive about young Bordeaux. A local retailer had a clearance sale on 2014, 15 and 16 Bordeaux and I just had to help them liquidate some.
Bought Branaire, Lagrange, Cantemerle, Monbosquet sms Du Terte cheap plus a few decent CBs and Pomerols. the Tour Bessan Margaux was a very nice wine at a decant price point.
