For such a wine now aged 35 years I suppose that $407 is quite reasonable. Sorry I did not buy last year - could have got a good but. Oh well.

Re: A St Emilion and a St Estephe.

Guys The TL was well balanced and the L’arossee seemed disjoint. I’m getting rather sensitive to acid - not surprising given an increasingly long list of internal issues - though Wendy will say it’s fine and I’ll be overpowered by it. I’d also say that St Estephe has improved out of sight in recent ...

A St Emilion and a St Estephe.

2009 L’arrosse St Emilion Moderate dark red colour, slightly fluid rim. Nose was savoury with dried herbs, red and dark fruit and a touch of French oak. Palate was a bit disjoint tonight. The acid was too firm and dominated the moderate fruit. Plums, dark fruit an a touch of raspberry plus some oak,...

Alex I wonder though if there has been some bottle variation, or is it just ageing? I bought a case of both 2000 and 2001 en primeur. I wasn't keen on the 2001, and the few drank several years ago were too herbaceous and minty for moi. It was quite tannic from memory but not overly so. I can cope wi...

Ian Sorry the 83 Margaux was corked, and the 89 LMHB seemed out of shape some how. I bought 81, 82 and 83 Margaux plus a few lesser vintages at auction in the dreaded recession in Australia (1990 to about 94/95) and importers, wholesalers and retailers were going broke. Re: Crab is back, white wines to be opened!

Nic Forget the Chablis unless it is from a really top producer, and get a decent white Burgundy like a Corton Charlemagne or 1er Cru from Puligny, Chassagne or Meursault that shows some minerality. With crab or lobster or shrimps/prawns I nearly always drink white Burgs or a top Australian Chardy fr...

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?

Folks I was debating whether to respond to this, as I see a lot of both positives and negatives. Yet for Bordeaux as a region, Parker introduced many people to the region, and his writings, particularly the earlier books, notes and stories, really helped Bordeaux commercially. I have to say that the...

I have both 2019 and 2020 Giscours and hope they will develop well.
The 2005 is quite a fruit bomb and somehow I expected the 09 to be similar. It was however a nice wine but a bit shy.

Branaire Ducru St Julien
