Back from 12 day golf trip to Ireland. Fantastic! now I can see the end of the finals. Hate to say it but I can't stand the Flyers. Bobby Clarke is an ... and the team has always come up short. Thanks Nic for the info but they only have 2 bottles in the system and the store is almost an hour away. I think I`ll keep an eye out in the future to try it. Pappadoc, Agree 100% with the stable of Palacios wines being top notch and over priced. I still really enjoy them and pick them up when I see...

Haven't heard or seen this one before. I've certainly enjoyed Palacios wines over the years. I looked at the SAQ site and couldn't find it. Is the spelling correct or did you buy it elsewhere? I'd like to try it for what's inside the bottle but the label description is intriguing!

Nic, I think that you'r right on track with 2006. I don't think the selection of wines is unrepresentative. Green/tannic/harsh are notes of the vintage. Certainly there are some winners but selection has to be very careful and pricing in Canada is taking advantage of the higher rated wines. Leoville...

Joyeuse Paques Alex, I'm surprised these tasting are going on on Easter Sunday. What happened to the catholics in France or did this take place on Saturday. Agree with d'armailhac opinion but there are others. Cos,Gruaud Larose,d'Issan,de Chevalier,Lynch Bages and Pichon Baron at the right price are very worthwhile picks. The Leoville Lascasse I think has to be the wine of the vintage. If this comes down in price it's a great wine.

Jay, It's not only Montrose heading to the pop and pour. I was struck by the 2006 tasting last year that the Montrose,Cos,Gruaud Larose and Lascasse were immenently drinkable with soft tannins and big fruit. I think they have one of the better wines in 2006. It's surprisingly drinking very well at this time. I'd certainly recommend it as one of the few 2006 worth looking for if the price is right.

Does it really make that much difference ($30 per person vs $30 a bottle). More than one bottle per person might be pushing it day 2. I'm happy that the footwork is being done behind the scenes and whatever it is it is.

I agree entirely with Bill about the tannins in 05 vs 06. The former are ripe supported by strong backbone of fruit and balance, whereas the majority of 06's are disjointed with lacking fruit and overpowering tannins. To me this is the worst minefield vintage of the new millennium so far.
