Re: Points, scores, and ratings
Nick, where would a Mulligan fit in? I have often said I like some rating with the verbal description, as sometimes the florid descriptors confuse the very basic need for the reader to know if the reviewer LIKED the wine. My example is the famous iron fist in a velvet glove. Is this a good thing? dr...

93 and 92 are two overlooked Cali Cab vintages. Both need drinking, but I have many fond memories drinking these vintages while many were chasing 1990, 91 and 1994.

Talk to your doctor to get a high dose steroid taper-say 80 mg split in 2 doses daily for 10 days-no need to wean off at this short dose. Loss of smell seems related to the variant and a person's immunology. Get well!

Re: Recommendation : white wines for the summer
Even though it is slightly sweeter than those recommended, I like Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris from Alsace. Mose producers have gone to a "richness" (think sweetness) scale on the back label. If not a touch sweetness in the summer, then when?

When you want to really know about anuses, talk to a lawyer! But concerning 2019, they, IMO, have never been as open as 2018, Opened a Barde-Haut the other night and it was shut closed until the last few sips.

This is why I stopped buying this producer, as they were aware after a vintage or two (or were completely inept) and yet nothing was done to protect the customers. I am also sitting on a 1989.

Alex, perhaps most of us have become barbarians? I have never been a "numbers guy" with regard to wine and abv. I have seen people drink wine, declare it great, then move on. I have also seen the same people fine a wine disjointed, pick up the bottle and note the abv. Aha! they declared, i...

Funny, as Chasse Spleen is my "under the radar" vintage tester wine. Namely, when I think the vintage is starting to drink, I will pull out a Chasse Spleen and see where it is. Usually works.

Re: 2005-the forgotten great vintage?
Jim, I propose that your proposition is flawed. To assume that a great vintage must have an outstanding one wine is not necessarily true. There were some great 1989‘s, but on the whole vintage in my opinion is that it is very variable and I would question the presumption that because 89 Lynch Bages ...

I have been reading this board for a long time and when a new hot vintage comes on the market, there’s a lot of buzz about it, as expected. Recently, we’ve had a run of great vintages of -the most recent ones, 2018, 19, 20 have all gotten recent buzz. But people will refer to past great vintages to ...

I went to my last one yesterday in NYC. 2020 is a great vintage, I liked the Margaux grouping. The Sauternes section was on the heavy side, Coutet could be poured on pancakes. Suduiraut was the best there. IMO.
