Re: Wines for BWE 2022

I’m locking in 2014 Boillot Moucheres and 1992 Togni for Friday night

Except if anyone prefers a 2014 PYCM Chassagne Caillerets instead of the Boillot then let me know…

Sticking with the 02 Mouton and Cos for Saturday. Bordeaux, baby!

Just a week away, I’m excited!

This looks like a great menu! I’m excited. Both this restaurant and Bistro Bis appear to be walking distance from the Metro. I think Dave and I will do that instead of drive (if the area is safe?) Pretty safe. I wouldn’t be too overtly drunk going back late at night around union station but there i...

I for one would love to try some caviar. Not very filling and good excuse for me to bring a 2014 Boillot Moucheres to the party I have fond memories of the last time I set us up there in that room, which was our last per-Covid get together. No red Burgs in the cellar, and no Bordeaux ending in “2.” I may be theme-divergent, but I should have something drinkable to bring. Probably a Napa cab (I have a 2002!) and a sweet-ish German Riesling Friday. Still mulling over Saturday wines. Marcus, Friday is “Anything but Bordeaux.” Are you sur...

On Friday I'll have to sit across the room from MichaelP and Harry, who cannot stand to be close to open bottles of PN. Probably I'll bring 2002 Ponsot Charmes-Chambertin and 2002 Clos des Lamprays, neither of which I have tasted because I only have a couple of bottles of each and didn't want to dr...

I wonder if, as some estates shift over to DIAM, like Lanessan, that the variation will be reduced over time. From my experience, I have not noticed any unusual variability with Grand Mayne, but I have not consumed as much of it as you have. My point in this (somewhat tipsy) post was not that the 2...

2000 Grand Mayne

As I’ve become a veteran (multi-decade!) wine collector, I’ve started to accumulate more and more bottles of wines I liked. This has given me an entirely different perspective on bottle variation. Rather than viewing multiple bottles as perfect copies, with their symmetry broken only by some hypothe...

Re: So what have you bought lately?

Per critics and Cellartracker 2011 is a great vintage for d’yquem but a small rung below 2001-2009-2015 which seem to be viewed as the very greatest vintages of the past 20 years. However they are roughly two to three times the price of the $200/bottle I paid for 2011. I did wonder if I should get 6...

Wow, “extreme ripeness” and “on the cusp” for a 2016 Figeac…eager to taste this now just out of curiosity. The reviews lauded “precision”, minerality, freshness and avoided the usual euphemisms for sloppy-sweet so we’ll see. Of course anything is super ripe compared to some of those old Figeac. Stil...
