How many of the 23 BWE-ers will be attending Thursday night?

Ok if we do Black Salt for Thursday night, how many people are coming Thursday so I can reserve? Do people still want the traditional Charlie Palmer for Saturday night? Or to change it up? Jim I know you enjoyed Bistrot Lepic but I think their room will only fit like 12-15 people so they might not w...

Re: I am going to make a bold statement: 2016 Chateau Lafite Rothschild is the greatest wine I have ever tasted.
I recently picked up a few bottles of this at auction for $600/bottle all in. A splurge but I’m trying to get fewer but better wines, and it feels like eventually people will catch on to the quality of 2016 and start pricing it higher. But nothing compared to Jim’s score on this wine! The greatest w...

Whether Harris has holes in her armor is irrelevant. Republicans will make up lies as needed. Democrats will need to aggressively attack the lies and counterpunch. I’d put Harris at even money with Trump. He is old and unpopular, she is young and energetic - not a great candidate because she has kind of a ditzy lightweight feel to her and a history of not being that effective electorally, but trump is at a disadvantage because a lot of people hate his guts or ...

David I think Trump is a windbag. He was President for 4 years and in reality didn’t seem to do very much at all. Maybe change tax rates. Even the build the wall rhetoric didn’t change much. Ian Your description of Lascombes is consistent with my experiences with this wine from the early 2000's. Like sucking on a wood stave. The logic of the rhetoric used against Trump is clearly that he should be assassinated. I mean, listen to how he is described, such a Hitlerian figure should be shot. OK Ian, I tried the 2006 yesterday at our July 4th dinner. It was DELICIOUS. My comment on the debate is on the trump thread. Agree with you 100% Jim. I really really liked this 2015 Gruaud when I had it a few years ago - in fact I think there’s a note I wrote on it somewhere on this site. I really like the modern Gruaud style although others don’t seem to appreciate it. Ele...

Re: Diner with JeanFred and two 2009
I have very consistently found 2009s better than 2010s when side by side. This is partly because 2009 fits some of my stylistic preferences for a soft and velvety type style, but overall I would argue that they are very well balanced and have good structure as well. In contrast the 2010s have seemed...

Statistically these Celtics are one of the very best teams in all of basketball history, so they might end up a dynasty. The league done fucked up by letting them get Holiday/White/Porzingis while dumping their underachievers. Never trade with the Celtics

Last one was game 3 of this Finals and we had a grower champagne, 2012 Drouhin Chambertin clos de Beze, and a 2014 Boillot Moucheres (premox!). Wow, that is worse than large cities in the US I think there’s a good chance that there is a long term secular trend toward much lower demand for fine wine. It’s going to hit Bordeaux prices hard - indeed it already is. Good if you’re young and building your collection, not so good if you have money...

yeah 2006 a bit of an off vintage. I guess they have a lot of people there at these state dinners so can't quite go to the top of the top. Serving any first growth to a big crowd is special.

LMHB is priced like a high end super second instead of a first growth, which is interesting. The market doesn't seem to see it as being as reliable or prestigious as the first growths. The other interesting case is Palmer, which is of course a third growth but is priced at the very top of the second...
