Re: Steve Jobs, revolution, and wine

Cheer up Alex. Perhaps you need a glass of your favourite vintage of d'Issan.

I watched O'bama on tv earlier today. He seems intent on getting some sort of jobs bill passed, and levelling out the tax system a bit. As they say, it's a start.

Beringer private reserve 2007

I know Cali Cabs are a stretch for this group, but I was just wondering if anyone here has tried this. I went over to my local store for a 1/2 case of the '06 d'Issan and noticed they've put the 2007 Beringer Private Reserve on sale at 50% off!! Remaining focused on the d'Issan I resisted the urge. ...

Re: 2008 d'Issan: Another 2002-like Bordeaux.

Something seems to be going on at d'Issan these days. After reading this and Jim's other thread on it, I decided to do a quick internet search. Everybody seems to like it these days. You've got to take notice when Jancis Robinson and the MAN agree with Jim that this is good stuff. Farr says the '06 ...

Re: Steve Jobs, revolution, and wine

$50 down there means it'll be something like $85 up here. I guess that's a less rational price than $50, but when you live up here you just get used to a stretched definition of "rational." Then again, there's no revolution in the air up here either. In sympathy with the situation in NYC, ...

Can't believe the news about Jobs. I bought my first Mac in 1985. If I recall, it had 256k of RAM, 2 floppy drives, and no hard drive! I continue to use Macs, typing this posting on my new MacBook. With his death we have lost an amazing techno-developer. May he rest in peace.

Hmmmmmmmm, I can't help but wonder whether Jim will prefer the '08s over the '09s, or vice versa? I picked up a few bottles of the '05 a few days ago -- in fact, the last 3 bottles in the system.

I haven't bought any 2010s Jim, neither as futures nor as real bottles. But since Jancis was describing non-classified growths, I was hoping that some of those might be in the under $30 range. And thus, perhaps, the situation would also apply to 2010. Hope burns eternal. :P

Re: Forget Bordeaux futures

They don't even have the 2008s out up here, Jim. That's the problem with government run retailers. If they don't think they've sold enough of the earlier vintages, they'll just keep the '08s in the warehouse until they decide they've moved enough of the older stuff. That said, there will be a point ...

A day later and this continues to improve. It's bulked up a bit, and has something a little organic on the palette I didn't pick up yesterday. Popped and poured. This is really nice, but also obviously young. Initially I wondered where the nose was, but with a little air it arrived, and it's beautiful: black tea, smoke, black raspberry. Tannic, but nice ones. Nice acidity, but not tart. Good grip. Nicely focused. Good balance too. Red and ...

Nice to hear good things about an '08. The vintage seems to have people perplexed. Some have written some very good things about the vintage, others have been cautious. Congratulations, Chasse, for picking up on the 5th growth thing. I wish I could say I planned it that way, but in truth it was just a bit of serendipity. Here's an affordable wine I can recommend, but it needs 24 hours of air, or perhaps a couple more years in the cellar. Initially it was quite austere: tight and tannic.
