Grand Pontet 1995

This is the last bottle from the case purchased as futures. I haven't consumed one in quite a while. The color is absolutely beautifully dark with the slightest bricking at the rim. The nose is a combination of graphite and blackberries which just assault you. Upon entering the my mouth I am struck ...

Re: Wine reviews Storage

I used to buy a few old bottles here and there but since the internet has become so prevalent a source, I don't. Today it is more important than ever to buy futures so that you know the provenance of the wines which you own. I agree that a lot of tasters just don't know that you just have to wait fo...

Wine reviews Storage

Three times in the last 6 months I have seen reviews on Cellar Tracker which made me stop and open a bottle of a wine which was reviewed as if dead. The first was Lafon Rochet '95, the second Pavie Macquin '95 and yesterday Marziano Abbona Barbaresco '97. Each review made me question if the wine was...

Re: TN 2003 Vrai Canon Bouche - a maturing bottle

Unfortunately I drank the couple of cases of this wine which I had. Good to see that it is still drinking well. I still believe that their will be hope for the '03 vintage. I was recently disappointed by a Malescot. Maybe it was just sleeping. I loved the Calon Segur about 2 years ago but now I thin...

Zachy's just put this back on sale for $11 per. At this price it is a no brainer if you like southern rhone wines.
Vacqueyras (Domaine Bessons Dupre) 2007 (90WS/90WA) {#331108}
So here’s the deal: On a Six Pack buy you will receive the dueling 90 point Bessons Dupre Vacqueyras for only $11 per bottle!

Re: TN: something from Lafite! Worth it?

This is the "next" wine which China is interested in. I had 2 1/2 cases of the Carruades de Lafite '00 and as I saw the price climb I went to the auction market (first time I ever sold a bottle). I thought that I was clever by getting $230 per. I did it because I thought what great wines I...

This reminds me of the DRC bubble from the '80's when Japan had all the $ and was buying everything. Remember the fear that they would own all of the USA. Rockerfeller Ctr, Pebble Beach Golf Resort, etc... After the bubble the price of DRC collapsed and their was a lot less of the burgundy available...

I was just thinking about drinking windows...if I had followed the advice of the day this bottle would be long gone as well as so many others. What a shame that the critics put these artificial time lines on wines. It is such fun when a bottle makes it to old bones and performs well.

Did not decant as I am always worried that the wine will fade quickly. I love the old capsules which are made of the thick foil. Judging by the color you would never think that the wine was 45 years old. The initial nose had that Bordeaux funk which I love. Within 15 minutes it had blown off to reve...

I am not saying all the '86's do not have to much tannins compared to fruit but there are a few wines, such Leoville Barton, where I do question if the wine will truly come into balance. Haut Brion, Leoville Poyferre and Las Cases are just starting to come into their drinking window. I just hope tha...

I bought some of the '05 and it is surly a tanic beast which will need years to calm down, but there is a tremendous core of fruit wraped up inside. The '05's are starting to remind me of the '86's where some wines are still not ready and in a few cases I question if there the furit can outlive the ...

Graet tasting note for the Lapierre. I purchased 13 earlier in the year and tried one and I agree with you assessment of the wine. This will get much better with age. In the last 5-6 years I have been ageing single vineyard beaujolais with some very pleasant results.

Re: Talbot 1986, La Louviere 2000, Nairac 2001

I have had the '82 & '86 multiple times. IMHO the '86 is the better of the two as it has the structure and backbone that the '82 dosen't. Early on the '82 was a joy to drink as the '86's were in their tanic shell, but for the last 7-10 years the '86 has been their finest wine. I haven't poped an...
