Re: TN: 2009 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix Boissée

Just had a 2003 Baudry La Croix Boissee and in a good spot now. 2009 is a great vintage from the loire for cab franc. Just bought some Domaine de la Bute Bourgueil Mi-penta for $27. Waiting for Brenton's, Jouguet's & Amirault's '09. These wines are great value and, require bottle age and last fo...

Re: Possible wine fraud on auction

I think that now with lots of wine moving around the world and storage becoming a real issue, we should all consider weather or not to ever buy wines at auction at all. The only exception is if the auction house is willing to guarantee the provenance of the wines. Little chance of that happening. In...

Re: Possible wine fraud on auction

I have had the Talbot 2000 3 times over the last 2-3years. First bottle was really good with that Cordier funk that stamps Talbot. I did decant for several hours and it could have used more. From the very start I have found the Bordeaux's from '00 really balanced wines, more so than any other vintag...

Re: Possible wine fraud on auction

Has any one ever bought a fake? Well I did many years ago. It was just before the auction market became recognized as a really good place to buy small or odd lots. I was looking at at on line auction, one which I had purchased a fair amount from, when I saw a lot of a 1947 Dauzac. There was actually...

Harry, loved your note and it is spot on. I have been on an Nebbiolo kick lately and have been drinking some of my Barbaresco's and Barolo's. I totally agree that the 1997 Moccagatta Bric Balin is very good right now. Still a little primary but in a great place. I also recently had a '97 Moccagatta ...

Maybe '05 will be better someday, I think that these '07's have more delicious fruit, in balance than other recent vintages. You might consi...

Re: Dinner last night, Bordeaux, and Barolo and others

Vietti is one of my absolute favorite Piedmonte producers. If they ranked Italian wines as first growth, their wines would have to be included. Their Barolo's, except Castiglione, need tons of cellar time. I just recently enjoyed a '89 Lazarrito and it was superb. Vietti also makes a single vinyard ...

The over looked Barolo vintage is '03. Not all wines but you should track down Domenico Clerico Ciabot Mentin Ginestra. This is going to be one outdstanding wine and it is selling for a song now (in the $45-$55 area). It needs cellar time but as the saying goes "great winemakers make great wine...

I love this vintage of Calon Segur. It is always a long/late maturing wine. I still think this vintage needs a few more years to really soar. I have always liked this much more than the '95 and I think it is now proving to be the superior wine. If you have the chance try the '86 as it is just reachi...

Great move Jim. I have been enamored of the Rhone wines from '07 and the prices make sense. I loaded up on this vintage and I believe that it is superior to '09 and will drink a lot earlier than '05's, which might be better in the long run. The real deal in the Rhone are the '04's and '06's. There a...

Great question. I never have been "blown away" by cos. I think that in general the wines from St Estephe are very hard and angular. They require years in a bottle if they ever can become civilized. Unlike Michael I love the wines from St. Julien and think that they are much softer and silk...

This spike in prices is not due to Parker or any one individual. Just the new price of admission. I don't like it. I did not like it when the '00 were released...first growth for $200 a bottle (I though that was to expensive. What a fool I was)! Now when we look back '00, '01' '02, '03 & '04 loo...
