Re: BWE Chicago '10 Weekend: March 25-28

Danny, give your lovely wife birthday wishes from Sharon and me! While you're enjoying the S.Pacific, we're heading to hopefully sunnier climes also, visiting family in S. Cal. and friends in Phoenix and Albuquerque. May sneak up the coast for a few days in rainy Sonoma as well. Bon Voyage! P

Re: Quick notes on some wines I've been drinking lately

I've starting drinking the Left Bank 95's and 96's also. We've enjoyed 95 Dauzac, D'Armailhac, Talbot and 96 Hortevie, Batailley, and Lafon-Rochet recently. All were ready to drink upon opening, all quite traditional in character. A surprise to me was the Hortevie--maybe the best of the six. I know ...

Soon I'm hoping Tom! Sharon is retired now too and we have several trips we're planning. It would be great to visit w/ you and Gail again!

Re: A very Quick TN-97LB and 96LR

I opened a few cases of 95's and 96's last week to try a few. We had the 96LR w/ lamb chops and my assessment is the same as yours Jay. Good wine, ready to go, will last quite a while. Thx for the note.

Re: Today's Premier Cru sale: Has the crash begun?

Dug out my old records (all paper, not a computer whiz like most of you guys!) On futures, I paid 28USD for P-C and 83 for Cos. Mouton I bought upon arrival for 140. Since 97, CPI has risen just under 30 percent. Thus adjusted, P-C is slightly higher now, Cos is substantially lower, Mouton has appre...

Re: 2003 Pontet Canet

Thanks Bill! Both 03 and 05 have confused me somewhat. Some had been what I consider traditional (in a good 1990 kinda way) and some had been very "Napa." I'm not a purist, I like Napa cabs sometimes too but I like to know what I'm getting! P

Re: TN: 1996 Moulin St. Georges St. Emilion

Jon, thanks for the note! I opened my first one of these last year and thought it still on the young side. I'll leave my remaining bottles for a few more years before opening another. I've tried a few other 96 RB's lately and didn't think any were in prime time yet. P

Re: BWE Maine '09

Hey, if Danny and Dani are going we wanna be there! Been too long since we've seen them and been too long since we've been to Maine (04 IIRC.) Now that SWMBO has retired we can do the leisurely drive instead of flying... P

Re: 2003 Pontet Canet

Bill, does this resemble the P-C's of the mid 90's or is it more...um...modern for want of a better term? I think from what you wrote that it is still typical but curious. FWIW, we've been devouring the 94 recently, the case is almost gone. 95 and 96 aren't yet ready for prime time. P

Re: TN: 2001 Selbach Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese

I've sampled a number of the 01 rieslings over the past year and they still taste like they were just released! I'm thinking I'm gonna be a VERY old man before they develop. Which will be at peak first, 94 ports or 01 rieslings? I wish I had discovered riesling younger, even in "lesser" vi...

Re: WELCOME TO THE NEW BWE!

Glad to see MSN in the rear view mirror! Quick check in from the snowy Rockies. The old retired couple is in transit and sucking down a zin (good ole Caffaro) at the motel. Off to sunny So. Cal. for Momma's 80 birthday and a lot of Chard--tho' she likes Kistler and my brother humors her there--not a...
