Someone had mentioned the 2013's having a drier style. The 2013 Ridge Pagani is anything but dry. A throwback late harvest style that hits on all cylinders today. A substantial portion of Alicante in that one too.

Has to be the 1978 Clos du Val Cabernet, some older cabs were being poured by the glass by a generous (and knowledgeable) steward at Sportsman's Wine Bar in Phoenix. I believe that was in about 1990, so it was 12 years old at that point.

Art, you are right. I opened my last bottle of 2000 LOdP about a year ago and wrote "plenty of clay on the nose and a deep core of cherry". The previous bottles were so angry and shut and oaky that they were undrinkable.

I purchased the 2006 La Lagune and Domaine de Chevalier several years ago at a nice discount (the release prices were significantly inflated due to the 2005 vintage!). I haven't dared to open one yet, as they can only be better at age 15 or 20.

No, I was not joking, but you are right - the 84 is not in the same league as the 86 and 89 Meyney. But, I have had the 85 and the 84 is right there along with it. Very surprising showing for an 84, I would agree with you there. Probably due to the Cordier greatness in that era I suspect.

Jim, I have had that happen to me where I had surgery and didn't drink wine for a month and when I had my first bottle it was too overwhelming. I like the analogy of not playing guitar for 6 months and then you need to get your callouses back to iron things out.

I had the 2000 Clos du Marquis a few weeks ago. My note was "flat out gorgeous nose, a tad one dimensional on palate". I would agree that below the big boys there is drinking which needs to occur.

Pichon Comtesse Lalande - always hits the right buttons for me, maybe is it the feminine style or the cab franc that haunts me.

Lynch Moussas - cannot really describe why. I like the label colors. 1996 made me a believer, the 2002 cemented it.

Ripe Grenache turns into alcohol when fermented to dry. That's what I like about Grenache. It's flamboyant and has nice legs.

Probably depends on the consultant and amount of new oak. I have heard good aging reports on several post-1994 wines, such as 1995 Grand Puy Lacoste, 2002 Pichon Baron, and 2004 Smith Haut Laffite.

Boy, the 6's look like the dark horse in this list. 86's are coming into their own right now, 96's need no introduction, and 06's are overlooked classic clarets.
