Re: 2020 Pontet Canet and 2019 d'Armailhac at RED Steakhouse here in Cleveland.
Jim, I was fortunate to talk to Mathieu Bessonnet, the winemaker at Pontet Canet over the weekend (long story, mutual friend). We didn’t discuss the 2020 but as Mathieu has been there for 4 years now, I expect a subtle change in style may be occurring. I think Neal Martin has alluded to this in his ...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yep, Mouton is 34% down from 2022 apparently. LLC even more at 47% I understand (though that is perhaps more of a reflection of LLC's obscene 2022 price). Will be interesting to see if these discounts are enough to entice buyers back to EP or not as a recalibration is long overdue IMO...

Re: Review of 2021 vintage in Bordeaux
Has anyone pulled the trigger on any 2021s? I've received quite a few emails in the last few days from retailers trying to entice me to buy up as the EP campaign comes to a close. Not sure if they have reduced the pricing but they did look a bit more attractive than earlier? But I'm still hesitant t...

Thanks for the note, Jim. I remember having the 16 at a Bordeaux tasting right before Covid struck and being really impressed with it - finding it to be very traditional in style. I also gave it 93pts. I've been stocking up on this Producer ever since and have the 18, 19, 20 and 21 on the way, as gi...

Nice note. I had a few of these recently and really enjoyed them as it's a good red, summer wine. The leather notes were lovely. Sometimes I chilled it in the fridge for 5 or 10 minutes which seemed to balance it out further. Perhaps I need to tuck some away as well. Cheers.

Thanks for the note. I bought a single bottle of this at auction just before Xmas and was unsure of when to open. Sounds like it needs more time and fingers crossed that it shows up ok. Nice note Mark. I had a few 2010s & 2015s of this and generally enjoyed them. I only say "generally" as I did find them to be a bit inconsistent from bottle to bottle. But the good ones were distinctively Margaux like and excellent value.

I voted for Saint Pierre as it's a wine that's never let me down. I can understand Branaire Ducru getting most of the votes however, as its arguably the most elegant of all of the wines listed. In fact, all of these wines I have typically enjoyed with la Tour Carnet being the only exception. Bit of ...

Had Labegorce's second wine tonight - Zede Labegorce 2019 which I thought was very good. Quite unlike its more feminine big brother (or should that be big sister?) though. This was chunky, gritty, tannic and full bodied - very traditional in style. Excellent value.

I picked up 6 of these just a few days ago from auction. I've been drinking this pretty regularly over the last couple of years and agree, it punches well above its weight. Classic Bordeaux and with plenty of life ahead of it.
