A great Thursday night! Glad to hear these performed so well Jim. I have only tried the 2009 Cantemerle and agree wholeheartedly with you on this one.

Re: 2004, 2006 and 2008 right bankers

This thread reminded me that I recently popped the first bottle of a six pack of 2008 Moulin St. Georges recently and really liked it. I'll dig up my notes and post them. A solid 91 (or so) point wine. I am a fan of the 2008 vintage!

Re: TN: 2005 Ch. Lascombes, Margaux - TERRIBLE

Although I have not tasted the 2005, my experience with other vintages of Lascombes, particularly the 2003, is similiar to OrlandoRobert's. On multiple occasions, I found the 2003 to be an oaky, flabby, disjointed mess. The 2004 was better, but only slightly. On that basis, I have not purchased any ...

Re: 2009 Leoville Poyferre @ $210/btl. Buy?

My last purchase of LP was 2002 at $35 and 2003 at $45. At $210, this is a clear PASS for me.

Re: TNs: 1989 LLC, Cos, d'Issan & PLL, plus 1988/90 Suduiraut

Michael- Great notes. I was particularly interested in your note on the '89 Cos, which I've only had twice (both bottles approximately five years ago) and I found pretty disappointing. Muted nose, limited fruit and slightly "flabby". I suspected at the time that the bottles might have been...

Thoughts on whether 2006 d'Armailhac is worth purchasing for $29.99?

TN: 2002 Branaire Ducru

A longtime favorite of mine, I decided to pull the cork on a 2002 Branaire Ducru last night. With strip steaks, I popped and poured. Nice, expansive nose on this one. Impressive. Definitely more "classic" in style and not big and flabby (despite its 13% alcohol content). Definitely makes m...

Interestingly, we had a '93 Rauzan Segla about a year ago that was excellent and still had plenty of life ahead of it.

TN: A couple of second growths

Last night, with steak au poive, mashed potatoes and snow peas, we drank: 1993 Chateau Pichon Baron: Opened and decanted ten minutes prior to dinner. Not much on the nose here. Mushrooms and some black fruit. Still holding some color, but much more amber colored than the Montrose. Although there was...

Re: TN: 99 Fombrauge

Agreed with the fact that this is typically overblown, although I actually really liked the 2000 Fombrauge. On the other hand, the 2003 was pretty awful (high alcohol content, big, etc.). I got rid of my 2003s, as I don't think additional time was going to help this fundamentally flawed (at least ac...

Re: TN: 05 Giscours

Saw this recently at Sam's in Chicago for something close to $50. Almost pulled the trigger on a bottle or two but decided to pass at that price. I'm interested in what others think. I definitely like Giscours in most vintages (2000 was a favorite, what a great wine).

Re: Looks like RP likes 2008

Jim, I'm also enticed by the prices. In fact, I just pulled the trigger on a case of Leoville Barton at $45.00 per btl. I haven't purchased it at that price since 2003 (and if I recall, it may have been $50 per btl. then). Year in and year out, this one is an automatic buy for me. No need to see any...

Recommendations for 2007 Bordeaux

I realize that it is not a great (or even good vintage), but it is my daughter's birthyear, so I am looking to buy a case or two to lay down. Any recommendations as to what will last 20+ years from this vintage? Pontet Canet has caught my eye, even at around $70/btl.

TN: 1990 Leoville Barton

Friday night, with strip steaks, we had 1990 LeoB. The bottle was uncorked and decanted about an hour before dinner. The bouquet was incredible, right from the start. By the time it was poured into glasses an hour later, it was SINGING. In fact, you could smell it half way across the room. On the no...
