Re: It's a jolly good time to be a BWEer, pip pip..

I agree, the Yquem was corked. Luckily that was the wine I attempted to pour. My ranking: - 1. 78 Lynch 2. 82 Lynch 3. 59 Conseillante 4. 90 Dom 5. 70 Corton – (great surprise, super wine on the evening, very fresh) 6. 04 Richebourg 7. 2001 Margaux 8. 2000 Mouton 9. 90 Conseillante 10. 97 Floridene ...

Re: It's a jolly good time to be a BWEer, pip pip..

In my defence, M' Lord, an eye operation a few weeks ago (detached retina) and monocular vision were both to blame for the depth issue. Suffice to say, I can only proffer the 'Dutch courage' and simple lunacy on the night to even attempt to take the bottle in to my own hands. A glorious evening had ...

Re: La Conseillante 1988 en magnum

Thanks Alex! I've opened a bottle of 2005 Grillet every year for the past 5 years, it is way too young. Only now are we starting to see the '05 uncoil. It was a pleasure to drink - mineral, lean, restrained, poised - but frankly, the best years are ahead. My 2007s and 2008s are in storage and they'l...

If I may, I am sure Ian will concur, cross-flow filtration (commonly known as reverse osmosis) leaves a very characteristic mark - saline!

Almost four weeks on, the trip remains as vivid and memorable as if yesterday. LLC 2012 was stunning, and as you say surpassed expectations, the highlight of the trip for me.

Re: Mini 1986 horizontal

Ooh, nice horizontal, Maureen. Do you predict that G-L will still be ahead of Cos and Montrose in five years? Yes, I think there is enough stuffing in the G-L to continue to outclass the Cos and/or Montrose; for me, there is not enough fruits left to balance these big, chewy and tannic St Estephes....

http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h434/mek999/image.jpg1_zpsqwzc8f9w.jpg As we know this wine was completely underrated by Parker at 89 points. Tasted it today, it was pretty decent. Ruby/garnet robe and narrow garnet rim. Mature fruits, cassis and an interesting liquorice and earthy note. I real...

Jim: I took my shots on a Nikon 7100 (lovely camera) and JPEG high resolution format.
The camera is a real treat to use, just darn heavy to carry around for simple everyday snaps!
