Jim,
Congratulations! Who is the publisher? I liked the interview and your idea about the realism of a lawyer's practice. I will try to get hold of a copy and read it.

My only qualms is, I think Monbrison has good aging potential, and also, I think Margaux doesn't drink especially well young. But it seems you have proved me wrong, perhaps. Who is Mr. B.? Burghound? Blanquito? The Big Bopper?

Hi, Alex
I think the Burg was really quite good. Maybe on the downward slope, but not the slippery slope. I like Phelan Segur and this wine was very good as you say. I imagine Phelan Segur '03 would be tight now but very good in the future.

Chateau Frank Phelan 2003 This is the second wine of Phelan Segur. Opaque dark red with lightening at the rim. Brown sugar, tobacco, leather on the nose - very nice. Medium bodied with sweet tannins. Currants, black cherries, caramel, dark chocolate, hint of leather on the palate. Good balance and a...

I drank some of this wine 36 hours after opening. It was amazingly good. Tannins almost completely resolved, great blue fruits and balance.

People complain about our price sometimes. But not the ones who bought it from me. I estimated a standard markup. It may not be a name like Lignier, etc. But... You have to remember, wine prices are not geared towards ultra saavy shoppers like you guys.

Re: TN: Geantet-Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin 'les jeune rois' 2008
Hey, Tom I believe that Geantet-Pansiot is a top producer. Their domaine is in Gevrey-Chambertin. They are rated by Burghound and in the WA, the 2005s were all rated in the 89 and up range with most in the low 90s and one wine a 95. The wines are pretty rare, as most top Burgundies are. This was the...

I revisited this wine last night and it is still a pleasure to drink. Has no one else tried this wine? I really want to hear another opinion. There are really no fireworks, just good, solid Bordeaux in a medium to full bodied format. Drinking well now, maybe like an 88-89 pointer.

Re: Non-boring, reasonably affordable wines
You just have to teach your palate to forget the '82s you've drunk, and this fab 2000s, etc. Start drinking under $20 Bordeaux again and you will relearn to love it. But seriously, if Warehouse hadn't have jumped on all the dumped wines from Diago to the tune of hundreds of cases, I'd be really scre...

Nice notes, Bacchus. I have always been interested in Camensac, ever since I saw reviews trumpeting their wine for the 2000 vintage in WS. Re: Robert Parker rates 1989 Lynch Bages 99+
Tom, I totally believe you. I looked it up and saw that he rated it 90. Somewhat low considering he has hiked the Lynch Bages to 99+ and especially for Margaux. Of course, I'm not that much of a points guy although I do take Burghound quite seriously. And I know that a first growth rated 90 has the ...

Just looking in on this wine for maybe the 10th time. It is still a marvel of QPR and a true Bordeaux. Transparent ruby with lightening at the rim that shows maturity. Tom, It was the '86 that was the most expensive. I think the '88 was the cheapest, followed by the '89, I'm not sure. I thought '89 was one of these "off" years for Margaux. I guess I should consult Parker before I make these statements  I was just interested because we had tasted...

Re: Robert Parker rates 1989 Lynch Bages 99+
I don't really take it that seriously. I see no reason why '89 LB shouldn't be rated 99 or 100. RP rates so many wines 100 which are probably not as great, or in any event, it's a matter of taste. But I still find his ratings to be a little nutty as of late. But it's probably just that the hot vinta...

It's quite interesting. That's a big upgrade from the 95 he gave it in his last Bordeaux book. I think Robert Parker is kind of crazy. Or at least not the most consistent personality. Unfortunately, Jim's vindication/endorsement equals an ever more escalating price for his favorite wine. What next? ...

Bacchus,
For a light to medium bodied red Burg, I usually go with roast chicken or some grilled Salmon. I definitely open the bottle while I'm cooking and by the time I actually sit down to eat, it's got a good hour of air time. I always finish any red Burgundy that I open.

In the world of cheap Burgs, I think this wine was far more complex and generally had more stuffing and lots more going on than Jadot's '08 Bourgogne, which they sell for $15 on sale and you can usually find for that price. It was an authentic red Burg for an absurd price, a blast from the past. I h...
