It's no go on the really nice French bistro near me, Jean Claude. They wanted $15 per bottle corkage.

Re: Looking for frameable maps of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, etc
I guess regular maps aren't framable because they've been folded? I have a Burgundy map that Barde-Haut gave me from his recent trip there. It's very cool and looks exactly like the ones they have at Burgundy Wine Co. If Harry doesn't have dozens if not more maps of the Rhone, I'd be very surprised....

Re: BWE NYC wine gathering: July 11th
There are a couple of very nice French places near me and I'll talk to them and see if a deal can be made. Times are tough, and they might be amenable. However, Saturday night is always a bit more difficult. I guess everyone is off Cafe Loup. I understand, especially in the summer, the AC is not the...

Re: BWE NYC wine gathering: July 11th
I'll check out the Square Meal website shortly, but I just thought I'd throw my two cents in re Fabio's. I'm not a huge fan, mostly because I don't think Italian food matches up well with Bordeaux. Also, the only time I was there, they completely overcooked my $45 steak. By the time it came, there w...

Re: The number of châteaux in Bordeaux?
I see your reasoning quite clearly, stefan. I still don't know why (other than that they don't really want to, which I guess is fine, or that the legal structure prohibits it somehow) the Bordelais don't have such a brand as you describe.

Re: The number of châteaux in Bordeaux?
I'm going to try one of those 2005 old vines 100% merlots. One of the things that interests me, aside from the thought of trying pure old vines merlot from the Cotes de Bourg in the vintage of the century, is that the folks that run this winery are very adept at marketing. I believe the NYC winemake...

Re: Uncorked 2002 Clerc Milon
That was my conclusion, based on a too limited sample - there was fruit there, but outweighed by the acid and tannins, with an elusive mid-palate. Obviously, you have to take it wine by wine in a vintage like 2002. To add to the current info, I'm going to open an '02 d'Issan at some point soon.

Re: The number of châteaux in Bordeaux?
I recently had a simple Bordeaux appellation wine that was quite tasty, Chateau La Gatte 2005. I've been meaning to retaste and post a note but figured I'd just add it in here. I'm starting to look at these wines more as a ton of them seem to have arrived at one of my more discount-oriented merchant...

I had the '04 on release, and it was beautiful. But six months or so later, it started to become a little disjointed, probably closing down. It's interesting that the '02 is drinking so well now. I really blew it on '02!

I know it hardly proves anything, but I tried a few inexpensive '06s, one of them a number of times, and they were very nice. I have high hopes for '06. It's especially great when you see '04s around, '05s still on the shelves and '06s starting to come in, and the prices are inching downward in gene...

Thanks for the great notes and referals, Richard. Savigny for reds and St. Aubin for whites are two of my favorite go to options for Burgundy. Jacques,
I assume Henri Boillot is a favored producer of yours or you wouldn't buy his wine in '03. What are some of your recommendations regarding this producer? I've seen the name around for awhile now but have never tried any of their wines. Is it mainly a white producer?

Maybe this wine is more of a delicious young drinker. Nine years of age should see it doing...something, perhaps starting to decline? Holding? Improving? Maybe it doesn't improve that much with age. Remember, it's not exactly a St. Julien or St. Estephe classed growth. Coming from a different angle ...

Chateau Plince 2004 Pomerol Don't ask me why I'm such a fan of this wine. It's a bit of an underdog, I guess. And so far, it's always been good. Opaque purple/garnet color with a lighter rim, typical color of youngish Bordeaux. A hint of menthol on the nose initially, with lots of chocolate, charcoa...

This wine is by no means high acid, at least not for an Italian wine. In fact, when I first tried it, I thought it was a very modern styled wine and that it must have had some cabernet in it. It even reminded me of a new world cab on some level. I know that sounds insane, but hey - the world of Chas...
