TN: Dinner with Danny, Brunello, Barolo, more...

My girlfriend Maria and my friend and personal chef Danny Brunello joined me at my home for a highly successful repast that included wines from five different appellations. With brie we slugged the Michel Bouzereau 2011 Bourgogne Blanc. This wine impressed even the supposed chardonnay resistant Mari...

Re: Is Jeff Leve the next Robert M. Parker, Jr.?

I will add that I think Neal Martin is too British in his palate, a little unpredictable and just somehow, a little flakey to replace Big Bad Bob. Maybe I should replace Bob. I'll bring my friend and personal chef in on the deal to review Italian wines: Danny Brunello. Anyone else want in? Name your...

Re: Is Jeff Leve the next Robert M. Parker, Jr.?

I have to admit, not that long before I read this posting, I had already begun to notice Jeff's posts on cellar-tracker, something I had started to look at in an effort get info to sell wines that I had never tasted. Two examples, neither of which I have actually sold to anyone, yet - heh-heh: 1994 ...

Re: is 2009 a weak vintage?

I'm beginning to wonder if '09 isn't a bit over-hyped. I mean, I'm not ready to offer an in-depth analysis, but contrary to Parker's vintage ratings, numbers, etc, isn't it possible that '05, '00 and '10 are all better than '09? What would that say for '09, I ask you, my brothers?

Notes on Cellartracker suggest a classic-styled wine with an overall rating of 90.2. This corresponds pretty neatly to notes and ratings for... 1994 Ducru-Beaucaillou. I tried the 2005 tonight at work. Just a quick couple of sips at the end of the day but I think that it's a good, traditional (for 2005) Haut-Medoc that is aging well. I think it will make it nicely to the 10 year mark.

I'm still waiting for my Latour epiphany. A very old bottle ('50s? '60s? '70s?) that I had with Ian once was very good, however, and I kept thinking about it for days afterwards. Rudi,
Thanks for your excellent note. Also, it's really nice to see a note about an '07. I think there were about two notes in all this time on the '07s on the board, a vintage which I think merits much more discussion if not appreciation - a useful vintage, as Broadbent would say.

Re: What is your Lynch/Angelus/La Lagune/Pavie Maquin?

I know you guys don't need me to tell you about this, but I've always been intrigued by the 'Burgundian' label. I think it essentially refers to textural characteristics. Also, as Bordeaux is a blend and Burgundy is not, there is a certain 'altogetherness' of the texture. I thought Pomilion's notes ...

Great report, Bacchus! Sounds like the 2000 I drank a few years ago. I think the 2005 will be similar, although the 2000 seemed to have a lot more complexity young. Maybe that will return with age in the 2000 and eventually show up in the 2005. Chasse-Spleen is a very Dionysian wine.

You have to buy Burgundy on release. The quantities from each good house are so small, in any vintage worth having, they all get snapped up immediately. All you have to do is constantly pray to the Burgundy God and you will be rewarded. You have to read, experiment, and basically try things by produ...

I had the 2011 Chantegrive White recently. It was excellent, although a very inexpensive wine. Light, balanced, delicious. I think 2011 is a very good year for Bordeaux whites. I've had the red before and liked it. I love the old school label. I would buy the red if I saw it. Good price.
