So, Tom, you must be a customer of snooth.com. Or if not, why not?

Re: Who knows this wine site?

I have heard that they use A.I. in slightly creepy ways.

If you search for Australian Grenache, a few days later you will start getting email ads for Australian Grenache.

I personally plan to give it a wide berth. Like gmail.com...

Re: TN: Brigaldara 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie

I don't find most Amarones either particularly bitter or pruney. You kind of say "wow, what a great wine" with a good one. Dal Forno is very concentrated but I found it a little woody and modern for my tastes. Some Amarones have a bit too much "sous bois" -- that dead leaf note, ...

Red Sox this season

Living in New Jersey, I don't get too many Red Sox games on TV. But this week I have had the pleasure of watching them play the Yankees -- we get essentially ALL of the Yankees games here but I don't watch unless they are playing the Red Sox. So, they have played 8 games this year. Anyone know the s...

Re: Is Mark Squires being forthcoming?

A perfect moderator? John Belden. Wise, quiet, kind, full of knowledge about wine. I think there is hope for that place. But I think Leve is clearly part of the problem, and -- well, Jim is right that he's nowhere near the main problem over there. But certainly a symptom of what's wrong. I believe P...

Re: Is Mark Squires being forthcoming?

In fact I think jealousy has very little to do with that discussion. Bruce_L and Paul Jaouen both made the point that for Leve to have the kind of vigorous arguments that he had here as Pomerollover, and also to have a finger on the "delete" button, makes for an automatic conflict of inter...

Danny, I'm so glad you came through that episode OK. But I have to mention that when I read the header, I thought, "me too! I'm happy to be alive!!" I have not had any sort of life-threatening experience, ever. But at my age, I can tell you all the kids I played with when I was five years ...

Bernard 98 CDP, ESJ 01 Bassetti Syrah

We had a dinner with lamb (butterflied leg, marinated and grilled) and Mediterranean dishes, a nod to Greek Easter. I brought up 2 bottles -- a Louis Bernard CDP from 1998 was the first. This was a frustrating wine. I know it's not a pretentious CDP, it's bargain basement stuff in a way. But I could...

Re: Wine and sushi

I'm probably in the Champagne camp. But I would say that saying "I don't like Saké" is a lot like saying "I don't like wine" There is a lot of variability out there, and some people like the milky white Nigori style while others like the rather sweet Junmai Ginjo. Some of the nic...

Really tough. My brother-in-law has a Golden Retriever, and faced a similar decision a few years back.

Goldens are a breed that kind of manages to convince you that they are people. Makes things even harder.

Re: TN: 2006 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La

The story of the name is actually quite interesting. The "old telegraph" was originally a station for the system in Napoleon's day, which involved visual signaling and semaphore. They eventually replaced it with the more modern wired telegraph but there were concerns that this new-fangled ...

Re: TN: 2006 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La

Thanks for pointing that out Jim. I'm aware of Telegramme but they show the Telegraphe label and they have it listed so it pops on searches for Telegraphe -- and I got it as a hit on wine-searcher pro for Telegraphe. So I might have even ordered it without noticing that it was a different wine. Good...

Re: For the French speakers; Francois Audouze featured

The article, in English, translated (badly) by Google Language Tools. "Roasted Ribs" is Cote Rotie, and the stuff about Turkey is la Turque. Notice that the author's assertion of François's generosity is counterbalanced by a letter making the usual point that in his dinners he is charging ...

Should I grab a few? I know nothing about 2007 in the Rhône.

PS I am editing my Safari message using Firefox now, and on Firefox I see the stars. Weird.

This is weird, I see the stars on my office desk-top Mac running Safari (OSX) but definitely not here on my laptop running the same software. Perhaps I have to log off and on again or something to start seeing them? Is there anyone else not seeing the stars? They should be tiny and just to the right...

Re: In honor of Harry: Feb/March is Chateauneuf du Pape month

Hi Glenn, nice to hear from you, hope things are going well. Jim, I did all that. Actually I knew that one of the guests (Andrew) had told me that Brunello was his favorite wine so it was a little hard to choose a CdP instead. In the end I took both. But when Andrew saw the CdP -- a 1995 Vieux Teleg...

Re: In honor of Harry: Feb/March is Chateauneuf du Pape month

Tomorrow night we're invited to a friend's house. I think they are cooking pork tenderloins wrapped in bacon or prosciutto.

I had been thinking of taking a Brunello or Super Tuscan but maybe I should consider pulling out a Chateauneuf.

Whaddaya think?

Re: Why are you not interested in Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines?

It's interesting to see other people's responses. A really good CdP has the most wonderful texture, it's like fragrant purple silk.

One thing that can be hard to deal with is the raunchy bacon scent, sometimes that gets rather distracting.

Re: Why are you not interested in Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines?

I think probably everyone here has enjoyed a Chateauneuf at some point, and probably most of us have a few in the cellar. In my case the real problem is that certain foods make me think of Bordeaux or Burgundy, other foods make me think of Chianti or other Italian wines. It is rather rare that I coo...
