It's time to (re) introduce myself.

Hello BWE, It must be over 10 years since I've posted here, life just got in the way of posting to boards. I just wanted to introduce myself. Hopefully some of the long time members may still remember me. Hi I'm Andy. I'm I life long lover of Bordeaux. I recently moved from the Boston area to Mid Co...

Re: TN: a real alternative to Bordeaux.

I really like Madiran and Cahors also but as Hound says they are hard to find. I buy them whenever I see them and still only have a case or so in the cellar. I just don't get it. With a lot of stores around here geting out of (or completely out of) the Bordeaux business, I would think these wines wo...

Yes, the 2008 release looks really lame so far. I thought that was just the first round like they've done in the past but it hasn't really changed in weeks.

NH may be dead as a place for Bordeaux at decent prices.

I thought at one point the inventory showed some in stock and now it doesn't. I took this as it already sold out but you never know with NH. The wines released (per the web site) haven't changed in weeks.

Like Gerry, I wasn't that interested so I really didn't pay that much attention.

There are a few BYOs in the Boston area. Some that don't have a liquor license, others that just thumb there nose at the powers that be. The problem is they would be hard pressed to accomodate 35-40 people. I can think of one that has enough room but we would probably take up almost the whole restau...

I guess I'm the odd man out because I would say neither. When I'm in a restuarant I usually try something I'm not familiar with, escpecially if they have a good wine by the glass program. It could be a producer I don't know, or a producer I kind of know but in a vintage I haven't tried. If they have...

Re: Mixed TN : Bordeaux, Italian, Bourgognes and Northern Rhône

I don't think I've tried the '08 Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo but previous vintages have been my go to QPR from Italy for a couple of years now. I think NH has it for around $10 so I use it to fill a case up during their Italian wine sales and get 15% off that. For my taste, it's hard to beat...

I think that's the 08 - it's just wrong the their database. Double check, but both the Nashua and Hampton stores had the '08 on the shelf with the '09 shelf sticker.

I agree, but I think the strength of CT is the vast number of tasting notes you can get for many wines. Even if I don't know the authors, if I see 5 to 10 people all saying a wine is in decline over the last 6 months, I take it as a sign I should pop one open and see for myself. Same goes if I'm loo...

Re: David vs. Goliath

I agree Blanquito.

Comte's note on the Dominus pretty much told me all I need to know - I probably won't enjoy the wine and definitely won't drop $100 to try it. There are so many other wines in that price range that I will likely enjoy much more and I am more confident will age properly.

I went up last week and the Dom was excluded from the sale. At least that's what the sticker said. $110 is still a pretty good price for the '02 Dom. I didn't see too much that interested me. I don't know. The Bears' defense against the run is pretty strong, but that doesn't match up against the Pats very well since they're more about the pass and their running game is really just to keep the defenses honest. I think the Jets use the running game more and they could have a tough time aga...

True, they can only play the teams they are scheduled to play, but I just don't remember them really dominating against the mid teir teams, they still give up a lot of points against some of the weak teams and they lose to the top teams. If a Cheval Blanc bottle (the Jets) is corked on the night it is being tasted next to Pavie (the Patriots), it doesn't mean it's a worse wine overall. But if Cheval Blanc consistently under-performs against the best, shouldn't it be down graded? Let's look at who the Jets have lost to this season -...

I had the Hamilton Russell a couple of months ago. I think I liked it a little more than you, but then again, I'm not a huge fan of Chardonnay, especially ones tha show their oak and butter so sytlistically this hit my sweet spot.

Alex, There was a mixture of Pop and Pour and decants. Basically, we left it up to whoever brought the wine to decide how to serve it. Frankly, I just don't remember if the two '01 Marguax were decanted or not.
