I might like it better now than 3 years ago. I know something similar happened with a 2001 La Gurgue, from the same commune. Of course halving halves probably speeds up the development.

TN 2009 Ch. d'Archambeau, Graves
This is something out of the Dubourdieu diaspora. Anyway there's a Dubourdieu name on the label (not Denis, I assume it's a son) and a characteristically well-made wine in the bottle. 09 ripeness in a medium-bodied package. I thought this had a lot of Graves-y hallmarks including smoke, embers, coal...

I think it can be enjoyed now, so it's up to you and how many bottles you have. I think I only purchased three or four. If I have two left (and they are not with me) I would be OK consuming another one now. If just one, I'd probably haul it out in three-five years, or maybe wait until 2020 just to m...

I had a 2007 Banfi CCR a few days ago that was pretty good. Probably $17-20. Compared to some other Italian and Spanish wines I've been quaffing and not reporting on lately, this, while I thought a touch soft/full/modern (or maybe it had just rounded some with a couple years in bottle), was still fa...

Ah yes, Pichon Lalande (disclaimer: never had one) the left bank Figeac. Maybe Rolland needs to be called in to sweep out those notorious vegetal notes. Then again maybe he did a cameo in 03 if it tastes like a St. Emilion.

It's a credit to me (OK Alex too) that I'm reading this despite having no intention to purchase any post 2010 Bdx. Now, if the Fonroque came cheaply (well it does come cheaply as a rule, so I guess I'd say "very cheaply") it might make a nice painless drinker. If this is a merlot vintage, ...

Isn't 14% the minimum for Barolo? I thought anything less had to be declassified. Or was there never a "rule" for the DOCG? I'm not against alcohol. But why drink 16% when 13% will do? I mean, if a CdP really needs 16% to taste typical (or epic or awesome or vintage of the century), then I...

The alcohol thing is interesting. I've seen plenty of TNs complaining about too much "alcohol," usually something about it adding a hot, spirity element to the wine. I've seen plenty of TNs noting that a wine "carries" its stated 14.5-16% alcohol well, without showing those (assu...

I've only had one 03 Pomerol, the Bourgneuf. If "smectite" clay is responsible for success in Pomerol in that vintage, Bourgeuf must have some.

BTW, I have noticed that since you bought that box, the Sox have stunk. Is it the "Curse of the Jimbino?"

Had this last night with grass-fed, Oahu-raised sirloin. By evening's end this wine had pretty much checked all the right boxes. In fact, it was multi-faceted in a sequential fashion. Funny that the TSB should be likened by none other to a "mini-GPL." IIRC I likened the 2000 TSB to 70% of the 1998 Ducru Beaucaillou. Much of the charm/interest/complexity if not quite the same intensity.

I've been lucky enough to take in a few 89 point rated Ducrus and Leoville Bs. I think the lesson is those well-reputed brand names (like LB) will deliver value in all but the worst and (paradoxically now that pricing can get so high in the vintage-of-the-century vintages) the best vintages.
