Sold out at PJs?! Maybe I should claim my $2,400 max allotment from K&L before they are sold out too.
Anybody else in for five cases? I'll bet the wine stewards are from those trendy Brooklyn restaurants. The ones where Bordeaux is so uncool it's hip.

Re: Noted: Interest spiking for 2010 Cantemerle!
Yes, the price has skyrocketed $5 a bottle. That's almost 15%. It doesn't quite cover my loss or embarrassment on the 2009 Pavie Macquin, but it's something. Reading the pro's notes is fascinating. Almost something for everybody. Suckling says give it three years then drink it for years. Mr. P in th...

Noted: Interest spiking for 2010 Cantemerle!
Just to show what 94 Bob points will do for a wine, K&L has had to restrict orders for the 2010 Cantemerle: 60 bottles per person. :D    :?: As previously noted, I ordered four well before the big score landed. This was based on the usual description of Cantemerle being "...

More appropriately, Jim needs not to change horses but to ride out, catch and strng up those varmints who stole his horse, the chestnut beauty named "Bordeaux". I'll volunteer for the posse - as long as it involves nothing without legal justification. This is the only appropriate ending to...

Re: Seeking advice on "old school" producers in BDX
I would say all wine that Parker rates 86-89, that are Crus Classés, are more "traditionnal". Dufort-Vivens, Boyd-Cantenac, Figeac, Gruaud Larose (I thought the 2006 was very traditionnal Bordeaux), Haut-Batailley,... Nic MERCI. Probably everyone thought I was joking all this time when I ...

Re: Calling Jacques: the 2009 GPL is "awful"?
I think the key takeaway from that vertical note is: " In keeping with other Bdx verticals I've done , I note a change in the style of the wines after 1996." [emphasis mine]. So this is noting the overall theme of Jim's about the (alleged or perceived) not so subtle style-shift ocurring ov...

Here's the notes of the vertical I was referring to. The introduction is pretty interesting - the last paragraph aligns with Jim's JimView. It would be nice if we could pitch in on a few hectares in the Haut Medoc on a decent heap of gravel, each have our own little parcel, each handle or not the vines and grapes as we chose, use so much new oak or more; in short make and compare "designer" wines from vintage to vintage. Proba...

I recall reading a similar complaint on CT in conncetion with a GPL vertical tasting. I liked the '95 (or '96?) I had at Jim's. Dare I say it bested then the "100-pt" '96 Lafite (which was pretty closed-in)? My only other data point is '03, which like a lot of 03s I liked, but am under no ...

One way to look at this is that HWSRN has less effect on prices as may be thought. At 100-pts this wine sells for a fraction on several others that are not as Parker-good, or not Parker-better.

FTR, another bottle, a nearly identical impression. Kathy liked it though. Again this just does not seem to have quite enough acidity and not the essence of other 09s I've tried. I would like to drink more Dolcetto. I think I've had just one but I liked the dryness, firmness and acidity. I think mine was from a fairly modern-styled producer based on reading about it afterwards, which may have accounted for the fact that the wine, while dry, did not lack for impact/concentrat...

Yeah but that's 96/7 in Stefan drinking-years.
The answer depends on how long you plan to live. Admittedly my bigger fear is the vinous nuclear winter, when one has outlived one's wine.

Judging by the pile of wine I left in Salida, and more scattered about with friends, I'll be returning someday. I'm not afraid of this thread. He takes the heat but he doesn't feel it. That 85-point rule makes sense for no-name wines, but seems a bit of a disservice to the consumer when is comes to something as rare/exalted as a PGCC-B or whatever Figeac is. I still say Bacchus needs to try a bottle of this. Actually I think it's in the by...

I don't think it's crazy at all, just notable, given that a couple of the wines are pegged as rock stars in other quarters. It does speak to the consistency of the growth. Pretty much bullet proof in the 00s.
The 03 is also tied for the least of the best. Just sayin.

I've had so few Burgundies of either color but of those it seems like an inordinate percentage have been Matrot (white and red) and I've been pleased with them all. Pretty sure I had the village 02 Matrot Meursault (though it may have been the Chevalieres) and liked it a lot.

I have more 04s than I thought, which looks like it may be OK. I bought a few wines early on simply because they seemed inexpensive - Leo B. and Pontet Canet come to mind - even if the "vintage" were middling overall. I was quite impressed when trying a couple of wines - maybe La Tour Fige...

I agree with you Tom in that regard. I may also be mistaken in thinking that the big boy critics are arguing over whether the "top" 50-100 wines are pretty much uniformly "great" (or even individually great) - the ones buyers/collectors/investors will shell out $75 to what, $400 ...

To reiterate, a "great vintage" is just marketing jingoism. And a debating point for these self-important wine critics.
A great wine is one you like a lot, regardless of the date on the label.
