Re: When President Romney takes office....
Great illustration of what I mean. The poll is predicated on a D+9 turnout advantage in a state where the D turnout advantage was +5 in 2008. So, really, it's going to DOUBLE in this cycle?

Re: When President Romney takes office....
If there's a pollster who is "right" with regularity a week, two weeks, three weeks before the election, then that's accomplishing something! That's not a fair metric. Polls are snapshots of the electorate at a given time. With every cylce, opinion changes more and more rapidly. So a poll...

I don't know what you mean by "house." I assume you don't mean "House of Representatives" because Rasmussen called the 2010 House races closer than anyone. What I have seen since the first debate is that Rasmusses was the first pick up the Romney surge then the other polls cluste...

Re: When President Romney takes office....
One of the nice things about being in NY is that the state is not really contested at all so I don't have to endure any political ads. At least I didn't until this week when the blitz started for two congressional races and the Connecticut Senate race. There is a Senate race in NJ too but I guess th...

Re: When President Romney takes office....
Just read the stuff below the topline. The polls themselves will quantify how they sampled the electorate, three numbers, D+R+I=100%, that's the predicted electorate. If D>R by 7+ points, your eyebrows should go up.

Re: When President Romney takes office....
Obama won independents by 8 in 2008, Romney is winning independents by double that right now. That includes in Ohio and other swing states. And, interestingly, most of the very same polls that have Obama up also show a double digit Romney advantage among independents. So one cannot just dimiss certa...

Re: When President Romney takes office....
OK, to answer one question above, the big difference between Gallup and Rasmussen OTOH and several others is that the others are sampling Democrats at a turnout rate of +7% or higher. That's what the electorate looked like in 2008, a wave year for Democrats and the biggest D turnout advantage since ...

It's still kind of a gritty area and the store stands out, but it's no longer dangerous. It's an odd place for a store of that caliber, though. Funny thing: the last time was there, in their rare wine room under glass, they had all these super-rarities like 1811 d'Yquem and 1870 Lafite and so on. Bu...

Funny, all the other (SF) Giants teams that made it to the WS and lost-'62, '89, '02--were absolutley stronger than this team or the 2010 team, to say nothing of other teams that did not make the series (e.g., '87) but these two teams won. Go figure.

Are we talking about the store in Berkeley? I've never ordered from them online but it is fun to visit. They have very cool stuff in stock and often very good prices. Funny, my Parker radar is all over the map. The other night I had a 100 point RP wine, the 1990 Montrose. I completely mis-identified it because I assumed it had to be in a different style to have gotten 100 points from Parker, when in fact it was far more balanced and harmonious (and ready to drink...

I do have a lot of options to comparison shop.
Though, I will say, prices for the 2009s are really high across the board. But I can find that wine for $40 and at the really expensive stores like Sherry-Lehman and Zachy's it's $45.

$50 seems like a lot for a Drouhin village wine. Used to paying that for Lafarge, Fourrier and Bachelet (latter in off vintages only).

Re: Where do you rank dry white from Bordeaux...
There are definely a great many white Bords at the low end ($10-$15) that are excellent for the money. In Burg, some Macons and Petit Chablis are fine but cost more than that. B-B from a good producer will be at least $20 and it zooms up from there.

A friend of mine had the 86 Cos about a year ago and he said it was really good. But the consensus in the room at the tasting was that nobody really liked that bottle. I actually didn't ask but nobody stuck up for the wine in general based on past tastings, they way some did for the 82

St. Estephe Tasting
Attended this last night. Core wines were Cos, Montrose and Calon Segur from various vintages. Also a few others, Phelan Segur, de Pez and Marbuzet. The core wines were tasted blind, which embarrassed most of us, but I will get to that. A few, we knew. So, they started with the Pez and the Phelan to...

My recollection (again) is that Moiex first came to Napa to make Dominus and Napanook came later. Dominus started in the early '80s but Napanook was not made until, I believe, the 1996 vintage.

I just looked this up and I guess the Daniel daughters sold it to Moiex after all. When they started in the early '80s they retained ownership of the vineyard but he made the wines. One of the ladies makes a wine called Lail which they used to source grapes from Napanook but no longer do. Ah, well, ...

Re: Can't Drink CA Cab Anymore
Because it is made by the same winemakers and it is much less expensive than Dominus. They just don't consider it a "second" wine or a Jr. wine, they consider them two distinct wines. If my recollection is right, every drop in Napanook comes from that one vineyard whereas the sourcing for ...

What happened to Greysac?
Ch. Greysac used to be a very reliable cheapie, or near cheapie. Lots of perfume, medium bodied, very smooth ... they seem to have changed the style. The nose is very Napa now but the palate is just sort of dead and over oaked. it really does not taste like Bordeaux any more. Kind of makes me sad.

I also had a 07 Napanook recently, which I guess is the junior offering from the Dominus people. It's not really Dominus Jr. and the winemakers get very crabby when people say that. Napanook has an interesting history, it's one of the oldest named vineyards in the valley and was one of the core vin...

OK, a slight exaggeration but ... I have, or had, always quite liked the Louis Martini basic cab. It is really the only $10 cab that is decent anymore, or so I thought. Had some people over for "small plates" plus three formal courses. Honestly, the "small plates" concept was supposed to make everything easier but really it didn't, I'd rather have prepped and plated six sit-down courses. Anyway, a great deal of wine was consumed: 2005 Grand Bate...
