Re: 2005 Talbot for $75?

Have a half dozen left. Excellent as of a couple years ago. Although, I had this is a bottle last year from the cellar of a friend which was still closed. Bottle variations I would assume. That priced seems about right. Spike

AKR, I purchased a few bottles of the 2005 EP and found them to be quite nice. Not a wine to stop you in your tracks , but , a wine to make you smile . Have a couple left...will try one soon and report back. Spike

Re: 2016 Lalande-Borie has been uncorked....

Over the years I have purchased the 03, 05 , 08, 09 , and the 14, all EP. Prices for these were for years near $20.00. I always felt that it was an affordable and reliable producer. Not a fleshy wine, just pleasant. Prices near $40, my interest goes down.

2009 Chateau Your DeMons ( Margaux ).

The pandemic has changed much about all of our lives. My wife and I travel every other year to spend a week in Montana on a mountaintop at the North end of Flathead Lake at the home of close friends. This year our group has decided that flying on a commercial aircraft purely for pleasure just was no...

2005 Beychevelle,2005 Clos de L'Oratoire, 2010 Clos Re Vouge

Enjoyed a tasting this weekend on an Alabama creekbank sitting in camp chairs with a group of ten chums, proper distance maintained. Late afternoon temp was a tad warm ( mid 80's ) for reds, yet, we soldiered on doing our duty for the tasting gods. Had a couple of whites of no particular note before...

Re: Zoom meeting tasting notes

2005 Domains De L'Eglise (Pomerol). This wine is fully mature. Big blueberry nose. Beef blood, mineral and blueberries on the palate. Tannins are resolved with moderate acidity and a medium finish. Not a big wine, but a really pleasant mature 2005.

Re: Music thread

I was shocked to see your post on BWE concerning POCO, one of my favorites! I am a musician , guitar/amplifier collector , radio personality and sometimes music producer who thinks that this band has always deserved a greater spotlight. About a decade ago I produced an excellent show with POCO and P...

Re: Comtesse, Dal Forno, the Stones, a perfect summer night.

Jim , I just finished packing (I am near Destin , Fl.) to travel to New Orleans to see the Stones this weekend. I then happened to read your post. Oddly enough, I had already packed 2005 Clerc Milon for the trip as well as a bottle of Old Grandad bourbon (seemed appropriate). WE plan to eat at Mandi...

Re: Under the radar winery suggestions in Sonoma

Agree with the drive through Dry Creek. For a real treat, take the road from the west end of Dry Creek over to the coast. Stunning country with very few humans in sight. Also, when traveling from Sonoma to Napa I strongly suggest taking one pf the pig trails over the Mayacamas Mtns. Seldom traveled ...

Gremlins, I wrote the original post re Aussie wines. I thought it disappointing that I had purchased a $100 wine touted as being ageable which seemingly fell apart over 12 years. I offer that as a reasonable comment worthy of further discussion . Spike

Bordeaux Vs. Shiraz

Being a Bordeaux fan I generally stay away from the ultra modern wine world. However, we had friends for dinner last night who are Aussie fans so I peaked in my cellar to see what might fit my guest palates. I found a bottle of 2006 Mollydooker Carnival of Love (97 pts by Parker as I recall). I reme...

Try to leave the quarter at some point....Mandina's on Canal is my favorite local restaurant. Again, away from the quarter try Maple Leaf Bar, Tipitina's or Chicky WaWa's (Spelling?) for local music. If you don't leave the quarter then you will not taste the local culture. Also, try the Parkview Bak...

Had my first of several bottles of this vintage this week. I did not take formal notes, however, the wine exceeded my expectations. Very nice nose with exotic spice. No formal notes taken with these two. The 2003 Haut Batailley appeared fully mature with a nod towards the backside of the drinking window. Very grapey nose which meets with flavor profile. Lots of creamy blueberry and cassis with a touch of licorice and mineral. Not terribly complex, yet, quite a h...

Had a coule of very different 4's on Saturday. The first was a 1994 CHATEAU PALMER. I last had a couple bottles of this in 1994 ( purchased from auction) to much satisfaction.
