Re: 2014 L’Evangile TN
2014 Château L’Evangile - 3 hour double decant and this showed aromas of black cherry and raspberry that were rounded out with earthy, mushroom scents that are still framed by oak, and gave way to a rich, luxurious mouthful of bitter cherry, plum and spice flavors that echoed on the finish. 92+(++)...

Re: 2015 Chateau Cantenac Brown has been uncorked and other ramblings....
I had my first BC last year, 2009, and wow what a wine, I'm now a fan. I will see if 2015 is around my area. Cheers BC (Brane-Cantenac, 2nd Growth) is different estate than CB (Cantenac Brown, 3rd Growth) even if there isn’t a lot of distance between the two. I last tasted the 2015 CB upon release ...

Aromatically it is great with a little air whereas the palate is still primary and fruit driven, so I’d give it another Blanquito or 2 depending on your preference.

2012 Rauzan-Ségla TN
A Vermont waygu skirt and a 2012 Château Rauzan-Ségla; double decanted for an hour and this showed lovely aromas of floral Margaux berries, black plum, forest floor and cedar which gave way to a juicy, burst of dark cherry and black plum flavors which maintained a wonderful freshness through the fin...

Re: Bordeaux on the weekend
Had the ‘89 Poyferre when Patrick was in town two weeks ago visiting his mom / sister. The Poyferre was at peak showing dare I say, an elegant seamless profile that only aged Bdx can deliver and was well deserving of a mid 90 point score and was a half notch better than the also impressive Barton fr...

Re: 2014 La Conseillante TN
It’s early maturity and wide open for business with its aromas starting to show nuance. I liked it and think it has a bright future and the first thing I did after drinking it, was WineSearcher-ed it, as I was thinking about doubling up as I really don’t own enough Pomerol. This is an excellent La C...

2014 La Conseillante TN
I participated in Loire Valley tasting the other night in a friends back yard and found myself in the mood for Cabernet Franc again tonight but just from Bdx. I’ve been staring at my unopened case of the 2014 La Conseillante for a quite some time now and have been wanting to check-in on Jean-Michel ...

Mark, Just one question from my end and that is, since you are not buying the top wines from the vintage why buy now? I think many of the wines you are interested didn't really have all that successful of a futures campaign (granted with no official numbers this is an assumption based on what I see)...

After the ‘05 it jumped to the ‘15 which was the youngest Baron we had and I had offered the person that brought it an older btl in exchange but he wasn’t interested and so it goes. The blind Pichon Comtesse ringer was the 2010 vintage and it was youthfully oak ladened with a layered core of ripe fr...

Picked up a case of the 2020 Branaire Ducru for a laughable $360 + tax at Zachys during their cost slashing, inventory reduction sale in January of this year but have yet to broach it so appreciate the data point.

Put together a Pichon Baron vertical several months back at the Saddle River Inn in Northern NJ and while the ‘90 slayed and was the unanimous wine of the night, the ‘05 was my favorite of the younger wines as it was rich, concentrated and complete and starting to enter its prime time drinking windo...

Montrose, Ducru and one of the Pichons to round out my top 3. And Izak, while I don’t disagree with you I think whether choosing to use Pichon Comtesse or Pichon Lalande most professionals would realize that one is talking about the same property. With that said, if one were to post the abbreviation...

The ‘19s were released for less due to the COVID discount coupled with the economic turmoil of the time and while the ‘20s were more, outside a few of the top performing estates the pricing has pretty much remained unchanged. PC is not a UGC property and as I don’t attend the en primeur tastings I don’t get to taste PC except when opening my own. Better to ask Alex or GBF as I am sure they have an informed opinion.
Best PC for my tastes though has been the ‘96 time and time again.

Not biting on 2023 Futures and instead doing a little backfilling like Jim but for Giscours with case quantities of the ‘19 and ‘20 for the cellar.

I like the 100 point scale and when tasting young wines, I think score ranges should be more frequently used as wines can change. And for in bottle scores, I frequently use the plus sign when assigning a score as I am grading the wine in its current state while acknowledging that there is room for f...
