While I generally prefer younger Sauternes / Barsac to older examples, with Foie Gras this is especially so.

That’s an interesting question and I have to think that in the long run, it will yield positive results but I am also unwilling to buy further vintages in the name of science until that is known. Tasting post ‘03 Pontet Canet generally poses more questions than answers and when it comes to 5th growt...

I skip buying this cuvée and just spend the couple of bucks more on Les Picasses which is one of the great values in the world of fine wine which is kind of similar to my rationale when buying something like Clos de Roilette.

Visited the estate last October and tasted the 2021 Baudry Chinon ‘Le Clos Guillot’ and immediately fell in love. When I got back to the states, I texted my Bowler rep and now 6 months later I received my stack.

I too pulled this bottle 5 or so weeks ago as I have been slowly working through the 1st bottles from 2014 case purchases after having read through the Southwold reports. And what can I say but we are closely aligned on this one. Stuffed SRF Waygu Flank and a 10 years on 2014 Domaine de Chevalier Ro...

FYI There are 10 btls left at T&V if you are looking to add to your 2014 stash. And I could very well pick them up for you when I go to pick up mine if you want.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Reading through the 2014 Calon Ségur thread reminded me of T&V so I logged onto their website and lo and behold they were holding a 20% mixed cases of wine site wide sale so ended up pulling the proverbial trigger on the below. 12 x 2014 Montrose $129.99 -> $103.99/per 4 x 2014 Montrose 1.5L $24...

I frequently come away thinking that Larcis Ducasse shows its terroir at the UGC but have had the 100 point Parker 2005 and then the 2009 more recently, and they both showed primary and not particularly well.

I popped one of these recently and it showed aromas black currant, forest floor and cedar tones that led to plush, plummy, dark berry flavors that finished with a drying, mineral herbal edge. And I also gave it 92 points and bought it on release for $60/btl, boy were those the days.

I often think that Lagrange goes the safe way, and the winemaker uses the formula "You never risk anything". It is a correctly made wine that is rarely exciting, but I would like to know if some more adventurous winemaker could bring this property up in quality. I disagree with the above ...

I had 2020 Cos labory (yes, we don’t talk about it much) the other day, and I liked it. Costco has it for 32 bucks and am planning to pick up some. It showed nice typicity of Pauillac and I find it well balanced. On a different note, I got the 2020 Duhart, and the AbV is listed ad 12.5! Now that we...

What do these run in your respective markets?
As for me, I am partial to good growers at this general price point such as Laherte Freres or Marc Hebrart or Savart.

Wasting no time I see and I remember liking it at last years UGC tasting so looking forward to your note to see how it performs at this stage as I too wet my toes with a double 6pack purchase. While fresh and classically styled with lower in AbVs, the wines largely lacked in both depth and character with many verging on dilute, so if I think I would be inclined to say it was closer to 2013 in style than 2014. My 2 cents.

I have a love and hate relationship with Malescot due to their oak usage and when overdone; I find it overtly distracting but with no mention of oak in your note, it makes me think the 2016 might have escaped that fate.

Re: 2020 DDC
Nice note and to me DdC really represents a tremendous value play in the current market as it trades at a significant discount to its quality as well as the more illustrious Pessac properties (thinking SHL or Haut Bailly).
