Re: Chateau Mont-Redon 2008 Cotes du Rhone

Thanks for the note. In general CdP winemakers produce also the best CdR wines. I think Mont-Redon since 2005 is making better wines. Maybe also influenced by the young generation. They are getting more and more involved and way more aware of the potential........

Re: TN: 2007 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée La Cote Ronde

Jon, I partially agree. Only very few CdP's see a lot of oak (Mont Redon-La Nerthe and several special cuvees). Even in powerful super fruity vintages such as 2007 you will find many great CdP wines aged just in tanks (concrete, stainless steel and even epoxy) and most of them in old foudres. I thin...

Re: TN: 2007 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée La Cote Ronde

A good Châteauneuf NEVER really needs a lot of oak......and when, especially for the Mourvedre, Syrah and VV Grenache, just a hint from part of the wine aged in 1-2 year old not too toasty oak barrels......

15% isn't over the top for CdP wines Jim. What about the oak? This wine sees some decent oak.

First, I think you really need a good and solid CdP (Rhone) reference before being able to judge them right..... It all comes down to the pleasurability of a wine.....I had ALL Bordeaux wines in the past.....the pleasure I find in CdP's I never experienced in Bordeaux or any other wine region...... ...

David, Alex, huge problem in the past in CdP were the bottling sessions over an extended period....sometimes more than 1 year....although this doesn't count for Clos des Papes. I am very happy that winemakers (mostly caused by lacking storage capacity), especially the young generation, changed this....

Re: TN: 2001 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée La Co

Thanks for the note David. Paul Autard's Cuvée la Cote Ronde sees a lot of (new) oak and therefor needs time to come around. I am a bit surprised (in general 2001 was a very tannic vintage) by the open character as described by David.
