Garagiste/Rimmerman is offering the 1998 La Tour du Pin Figeac [St Emilion] for $37 at the moment. It has a good location, somewhat in between Cheval Blanc and Figeac. Rarely seen and I think the vineyard has now been absorbed into one those estates. I enjoyed quite a bit the 1989 if memory serves me.

Yikes. I had always thought the Gulf side of the state was safer? My cousin is in Tampa and said they lost power, and that was about it. He has a generator and all that though.

WilliamP summoned a few of the local cadres over the weekend, to partake in Bordeaux and beef. Everything was kind of jumbled up in our household, so I ended up bringing minion #2 over, and imbibing modestly. Still it was great to see everyone, taste some old wines, look at new crafts/projects, and ...

I don't think balance is some never changing aspect that can't shift given how wines develop. I think we've all experienced examples where cloying/overripe fruit* takes over, or abrasive tannins^ seize the hill, or wines that turn shrill and tart# as time marches on. * 07 CNDP ^ 75 Medocs # 14 Tuscany

one cool thing about Foillard's wines is that they are very low (or possibly no) sulfite, so they are some of the very few rouge's that one of my siblings can consume without having a reaction. Mostly they are stuck to white/sparkling because of that latter in life allergy. Bojo is handy in our area...

We had the 2009 version of that Jadot earlier this summer, probably a touch rounder than the vintage you had? It was good, but they seem very expensive for what they are.

I think some of the names jckba mentions might be too flavorful for a party wine. In some ways, I think drinks that are less distinctive, more innoucuous are better for an event where people are standing around, drinking, maybe having a snack. Fruity and supple would be the main dimensions I'd look ...

I think it’s right to strongly favor despising a wine that obliterates it’s terroir in the context of most over classified wine debate. Lascombes would get my vote too. So I picked up a bunch of cases of the 2004 Lascombes years back on a K&L closeout for $29.99/per and while I thought I liked ...

There is a lot of cherry picking when presenting the returns of dollars deployed into wine. Winners are sold, everything else is down the gullet.
