I have not had a La Jota in more than a decade, but I do remember a quite good cab franc from them back then. There are so few bottling it up as a single varietal in Napa/Sonoma nowadays.

Re: Wine as an investment vehicle

If wine is such a lucrative trading vehicle...why aren't the proprietors of K&L, MacArthurs, Zachy's etc. not billionaires? Presumably they would have a hundred fold advantage over the clients in an opaque, illiquid, non auction market. The proprietary traders at GS, Solomon Bros., various House...

Re LLC, I'll purchase 2021 in 5 years time when prices drop. Why do you believe LLC prices will drop? When I was in college I used to live near Fenway Park, on Beacon St., and one of my laboratory's chief had season passes for the Sox (they were modestly priced back then) and often he could not make one of the 81 or so games. PXL_20220730_015630630.jpg I pulled my last 2003 Haut Marbuzet [St Estephe] and had a couple glasses before/with supper. For my tastes, this is tipping downhill now but it has lasted longer than the vintage, and the estate's reputation, suggested it would. The color is garnet, with some orange at t...

Will this 2022 year end up being a 'lost, flabby vintage' in Europe?

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/19/world/europe/uk-heat-wave-1976-temperature.html I cannot recall a 1976 from Bordeaux that did not suck (by the time I got to try them) but few survived - given the hotness/flabiness - so that is not some kind of exhaustive panel. I have not had the Clos du Marquis bottling in many vintages, perhaps 10-15 years, so no sense for how it is now.

How would folks slot them into the general consensus? It seems like lists are similar, with maybe some variance around Poyferre, L.Barton, and Gruaud.

This Branaire is doing yeoman's work, still slogging away at age 19. Dark, with little fading at the rims, medium bodied, with cedar/sandalwood/spices on the nose. It remains fruity and youthful on the palate. A smidge of tannin still.

It seems odd that it would be a 'neighbor' if its AOC Medoc, rather than Haut Medoc.

Medoc would be further up north I would think.

I seem to remember from a map that S-M's closest vineyards were Charmail and St. Paul, relatively proven and well distributed, at give or take ~$20 level.

Are the first growths doing anything special/different/better with corks now to address potential taint issues?

It seems like it would really hurt the brand, and the consumer, when a year like 1983 is off given the patience invested.
