Re: Sipping on a 2005 Brane Cantenac while staring at my oil bill.
I filled the oil tank at my shop last week. The rate was 3.99 a gal. I don't think we've seen prices that high since the GWB administration. At home I'm so happy with my new Geothermal heat pump connected to the ductwork of our formerly oil fired forced air system. Anyone need a 330 gal oil tank, ch...

Re: Waiters Corkscrew
I recently bought the Monopol Ah-so and I'm very happy so far, opening 3 bdx bottles older than 1985 already, with 100% success. I have yet to use a Durand. I also don't think there's a waiter's corkscrew anywhere in my house. The corkscrew I use is an expensive one from Monopol. I only wish it had ...

Tonight, for Valentine's Day I opened a half bottle of 1986 Ch.L'Arrosee. It wasn't like the '81 from a couple days ago at all. Not especially earthy, this was loaded with fresh fruit and much brighter.

Re: What are we drinking in the Omicron ominous?
I agree that it was a deliberate deception. The product is still listed on their website at the same sale price. They don't list the second wine at all. The name script on the label is rather similar to that on the first wine, so easy to mistake at a quick glance, but anyone actually reading the lab...

Tonight I opened the second of three bottles of 2015 Chapelle de Potensac that Rye Brook Wine & Spirits sold me as 2015 Chateau Potensac. At a better than expected price for Potensac and a crappy price for La Chapelle. I guess I won't be looking at their deals ever again. At least the wine is ok...

I found a new store to check out last night. I was surprised to see quite a large French wine display section out front, but no Bordeaux. Further back in the store, on one of the shelves, were the Bordeaux. They have a few items of minor interest but nothing that stands out. The (young female) store...

Re: What are we drinking in the Omicron ominous?
Today I had the last of a 2018 Ch. Senejac and a 2016 Dame de Montrose, and tonight I started a bottle of 2019 Ch. Marsac Seguineau.
All pretty much performing as expected. However, the Marsac Seguineau was more balanced and pleasurable than I thought it would be within a year of bottling.

How was it Chris? An obscure 1975 Moulis is surely interesting. Tonight, i should opened a 2018 Chateau Villegeorge Haut-Médoc, inspired by Bill P positive review of three 2018 Bordeaux lately. Last night, 2018 Reserve de Comtesse.
I splash decanted it after slow ox all day at 61F, then started preparing dinner.
The first glass didn't offer much but, 2 1/2 hours later at the end of dinner, I was more than happy to finish off the bottle.

I believe there are 2 bottles left in the Manchester store.

Coravin for EVOO so the Salmanazar will last a whole year. :D I think Nola claims hers will last 4 years if kept cool and dark. An open 500ml bottle won't last more than a month in my house, but I'm sure it would keep in the cupboard for a few months. I loved the 2021, and the bottle I just opened s...

To sum it up simply, I think second wines are rarely worth the price compared to 1st wines of other estates. But there are always exceptions. There are second wines all the way down to $20 Cru Bourgeois Chateaux. I regularly buy Ch. d'Arvigny, which is the second of Ch. Beaumont. In selective years...
