Re: Bordeaux 2019 In Bottle Tasting at FarrVintners
It's definitely a bit bizarre that LB were the last to be received. My contacts at these retailers/merchants/auction houses have made some off-handed comments regarding shipping delays, but I have not heard enough details to put together a cohesive picture of the logistical issues or the level of ri...

Re: Bordeaux 2019 In Bottle Tasting at FarrVintners
Received the last of my '19s this week. Yes, later delivery than usual, but Millesima and HDH were both reasonable in their communication and scheduling. Adding to the other thread regarding 2019 shipping, my EP recommendation in this environment would be to only use highly reputable sources, and th...

My final shipments of '19s (including the first '19 Lynch Bages for me) arrive this week. Really looking forward to these. The '19 Pichon Lalande in particular has blown me away.

Nice note Nic and thank you for the reminder. JoelD, the 2016 Calon Segur is a stunner and can absolutely be enjoyed now. Of course, JCNorthway! I can't do this alone :) I am seeing some successful BWE events in the future :) Well done, BigTex! I like to grab some large formats (and splits) with futures. Speaking of, I worked with Fine Wines International for a rate reduction on their 2016 GPL in-stock and made a purch...

Thank you for the specific accommodation help, Claudius. I'm undecided on location, but this gives me more to consider.

Unfortunately, I had planned to miss BWE France 2020 due to our upcoming wedding, but little did I anticipate that I would be visiting Bdx the next month. Despite 11 days in Italy in September (our MBA grad gift), we came back around on the idea of Europe for the honeymoon. We are starting with 5 ni...

CJD,
yes, they were recently acquired by Lynch. If I recall, they held back their 2015 from EP release, and then they have increased the pricing. Scores have increased for the 2016 and 2018, but not sure if there's actually an uptick in quality. Seems like good terroir and material

Re: 2014 Pontet Canet
I wasn’t thrilled with it. I had the ‘14 PLL, GPL, Pontet Canet, Purple Baron, Clerc, and Lynch together. Pontet came off a touch lush and glossy with more black fruit than the rest. My note was that it almost had syrah-like black fruit on the nose with my first whiff. It calmed down well, but a lit...

Ha! I have the mainstay growths from Pauillac being delivered over the summer (from the dreadful and fraudulent GPL to the venerable PLL), and I plan to taste them all in the name of science shortly after. Pauillac: Chateau Chantecler - Anyone familiar?
Chateau Chantecler is a 1 hectare vineyard situated in Pauillac between Mouton, Lafite, and Pontet Canet, family owned by the Mirande Family (Yannick Mirande now runs the property). They previously owned 12 hectares, and they sold off most to Mouton in 2004. My friend works for SommSelect and recomm...

Re: 2018 EP Buying Thread
Agree Calon is a savvy buy. 14.9% abv is scaring me off. Many writers have noticed the alcohol is "masked" by appropriate acidity, and that the wines do not taste reflective of their technical components. I'm skeptical. What do you think BWE - are you buying it? I went long on Les Carmes a...

Good idea! Not planned - I had a 2015 PLL and a 2007 Travaglini Gattinara Riserva Saturday. The Pichon Lalande has settled in very nicely, and it has noticeably calmed down from the first bottles opened a year ago. I detected quite ripe fruit when opened a year ago (I was a little concerned tbh), bu...

Good advice here. Thanks for sharing. I am still building an initial collection, at around 750 bottles with 1/3 being 2015-2016s My strategy has been to focus on long term purchases, largely driven by price and my age. I had another 2014 Saturday, and it was great.
If you can pick up a bottle, I think you should give it a try - particularly given what you've said about the vintage.

Re: Fasting
Well done tiesface. My weight is all stress related. I lost 15 pounds once during a two-week double manslaughter trial. Usually the stress of trial practice causes me to pursue an unhealthy diet and, thus, put on weight. Thus the goal to try to slow things down a bit moving forward! Thanks, Jim. Yo...

Great to hear. I fasted all of January and dropped 14 lbs.
I'm continuing the plan (no grains, no sugar, no dairy, no legumes, no processed foods, no alcohol) for the foreseeable future, and taking breaks 1-2/meals a wk for dining and bordeaux. We'll see how it continues, but I'm feeling great.
