Re: Bordeaux 2019 In Bottle Tasting at FarrVintners

It's definitely a bit bizarre that LB were the last to be received. My contacts at these retailers/merchants/auction houses have made some off-handed comments regarding shipping delays, but I have not heard enough details to put together a cohesive picture of the logistical issues or the level of ri...

Re: Bordeaux 2019 In Bottle Tasting at FarrVintners

Received the last of my '19s this week. Yes, later delivery than usual, but Millesima and HDH were both reasonable in their communication and scheduling. Adding to the other thread regarding 2019 shipping, my EP recommendation in this environment would be to only use highly reputable sources, and th...

Nice note Nic and thank you for the reminder. JoelD, the 2016 Calon Segur is a stunner and can absolutely be enjoyed now. April 2020 Bordeaux/Paris Rec's - Honeymoon

Unfortunately, I had planned to miss BWE France 2020 due to our upcoming wedding, but little did I anticipate that I would be visiting Bdx the next month. Despite 11 days in Italy in September (our MBA grad gift), we came back around on the idea of Europe for the honeymoon. We are starting with 5 ni...

CJD,

yes, they were recently acquired by Lynch. If I recall, they held back their 2015 from EP release, and then they have increased the pricing. Scores have increased for the 2016 and 2018, but not sure if there's actually an uptick in quality. Seems like good terroir and material

Re: 2014 Pontet Canet

I wasn’t thrilled with it. I had the ‘14 PLL, GPL, Pontet Canet, Purple Baron, Clerc, and Lynch together. Pontet came off a touch lush and glossy with more black fruit than the rest. My note was that it almost had syrah-like black fruit on the nose with my first whiff. It calmed down well, but a lit...

Pauillac: Chateau Chantecler - Anyone familiar?

Chateau Chantecler is a 1 hectare vineyard situated in Pauillac between Mouton, Lafite, and Pontet Canet, family owned by the Mirande Family (Yannick Mirande now runs the property). They previously owned 12 hectares, and they sold off most to Mouton in 2004. My friend works for SommSelect and recomm...

Re: 2018 EP Buying Thread

Agree Calon is a savvy buy. 14.9% abv is scaring me off. Many writers have noticed the alcohol is "masked" by appropriate acidity, and that the wines do not taste reflective of their technical components. I'm skeptical. What do you think BWE - are you buying it? I went long on Les Carmes a...

Good idea! Not planned - I had a 2015 PLL and a 2007 Travaglini Gattinara Riserva Saturday.
