Re: 2014 Duhart Milon has been uncorked and other ramblings....

Such a wonderful wine. Opened a half bottle of the 2014 Haut Brion and it was an outright stunner. I am hard pressed to think of a 2014 that I opened in 2023 that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. An absolutely classic vintage.

Re: What are your top 10 wines of 2023?

Have to say on the Bordeaux side of my top wines of 2023, a 2014 Haut Brion from a 375mL I had toward the end of December really jumped toward the front end of the line! 2006 Trotanoy, 1982 GPL also pretty neck and neck…rest of my highlights are a smattering of white / red burgs (2014 Bachelet Monno...

Re: 2005 Bellevue Mondotte and Pavie

I bought a lot of 2005s. They are all over the place. This one is not a wine for drinking. This is a wine for laying down and avoiding. 2005 Bellevue Mondotte : Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Pop and pour, sampled over 4 hours. This has gone from “feh” a couple of years ago to “yuck...

Re: 2010 Cantemerle

2010 may be my favorite vintage of this wine - period. I opened one last year and found it to be just entering the sweet spot for my palate. Still youthful, but very accessible and complex. I haven't been as impressed by vintages post 2010 - like 2015, 2016 I both found enjoyable but don't think the...

Tend to agree with this - I am reserving judgment just to see how they progress in 5-10 years, but out of my somewhat limited sample size, I also had the exact same impression. Reds are just an insane amount of power right now - whites? might be one of the top vintages I have had in a while.....acro...

Congrats! This wine, and the 1989, were nearly single-handedly the wines that really opened my eyes as to what magic aged Bordeaux truly possesses. Although my palate has broadened in recent years beyond the region, this wine is a special one for me. So glad it showed well. I brought a 1989 PB to a ...

Opened a 1982 GPL last night at an impromptu gathering with some wine friends in Chicago. Sadly my last bottle, but boy was it a beauty. 2014 VCC is available at Chicago Wine co for $1249 for a six pack. Pretty sharp pricing - would also add Vint at $1250 roughly for a six pack. Vint, I think because they are new, as of a few weeks ago was offering free shipping - so still DC taxes as I understand it, but waving the shipping cost. 2...

Market post - First Growth price premium

The more wine I drink in this "modern" era of Bordeaux (post 2010), the less and less difference I feel many FGs possess relative to the rest of the pack. And if so, I just wonder how/why they would be able to retain the pricing premium over the rest of the market that they've historically...

I don't think you can go wrong with a 2000 Montrose, especially at that price. The last one I opened was in late 2021 and it was an excellent wine.
