Re: President Trump

I'm still concerned about NV. It's too close and there are sooo many people here upset with the Democratic Governor due to the shutdown of the casinos/bars/restaurants. While most have all reopened the casino companies figured out how to trim their expenses. They have only brought back 60-70% of the...

Re: Ouch

I opened a 375 of '96 Cos a couple of nights ago...very little sediment to my surprise. Mid-weight, lots of herbs, a bit of green pepper (actually Lisa said a lot of green pepper) in a really good way. Pretty much resolved at this point, not a very long finish...but a really nice, mature '96. I have...

I opened a 2014 tonight after a long, messy business trip. Opened 90'minutes before dinner and decanted. This is not in a good place right now. For sure it will be at in time. The acidity is sticking out. Tannins obvious and poking out too. Plenty of fruit and structure, but disjointed today. Not te...

Re: 2014 Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Château de Blagny

2014 was a really, really good year for Chablis. My budget tends to prefer Fevre wines, but I do really like Dauvissat and Raveneau, but their prices have really escalated. Fevre mostly runs between $40-80 depending on the vineyard. Most of the lineup is mineral, stone driven...very precise, saline,...

I was just going to chime in and say that this was the "Margaux of the UGC tasting" a few months ago, but the more I thought about it, that was the "Brane Cantenac", not the "Cantenac Brown". Wine can be so confusing sometimes...LOL.

2014 Gloria, 2015 Les Carmes HB

Openeed a few super young Bordeaux over the last few nights: 2014 Gloria-I am really enjoying the charismatic St. Julien's lately. I opened a wonderful 2009 Gloria a few months back, and this 2014 seems to have all of the same elements-expressive nose, deep, dark fruits, a hint of chocolate, cassis,...

Re: The 2005 Vintage -- how good is it really?

The Gloria has gotten a lot more tannic and closed as it has been open the last 3-4 hours. Surprising as I didn't sense this coming when opened. Not sure when to open another, but i can only assume it needs more time. This wine has whipsawed-now it seems like an '86. :)

Re: The 2005 Vintage -- how good is it really?

Data point-Just opened my first '05 Gloria. Cork is perfect-sound bottle. Dark crimson in color, lightening at the edges, no real tan or browning yet. Nose is shy, but with good swirling I get some nice plum, cherry, leather. The palate is surprising-I was expecting some tannic structure and acid. N...

I got to try the '15 a few nights ago-spot on with Chris's note. I've had a '14 downstairs, and opened it tonight. Very similar material, but the '14 had a bit less of everything. A bit less dense, a bit less dusty cherry, a bit less structure, a little more dilute. A nice wine, but if you can find ...

Bordeaux books

Heading out on a 7 day vacation next week and am looking for something to read. Any good books on the Bordeaux wine region that you would recommend? Not super intensive like Clive Coates Cote D'or, but good reading on Bordeaux regions, wines, etc.
