Re: Margaux appellation pecking order

Margaux appellation was a minefield for several decades. There were few constants. For over 30 yrs now Chateau Margaux perfoms on top level again. Palmer is a class of its own. Lot of improvement in many chateau can be seen today. The second crus Rauzan Segla, Brane Cantenac, Durfort Vivens and thir...

Re: Personal ranking of Pauillac fifth growths

Tough call. Lynch Bages clear in front. Legend since early 80s. 19 vintage edges premier quality. Pontet Canet is hot since mid 90s, but atypical and controversial styled since 2009. Big questionmark on that. No preference. Grand Puy Lacoste offers value since late 80s, esp. in so called small vinta...

Dear Jürgen. Let it go. No sign of insight here how.
I'm glad to own two cases of Gpl 09, 10 each and lots of other vintages and i may think you like these wines like i do. I don't envy drinking them all these unripe 02 stuff. It's a hard job but someone's got to do it. :-)

Re: The fraud that is Grand Puy Lacoste.

Sorry guys but i am not in your team for some reasons. In my point of view Gpl produced good up to excellent wines in vintages like 89,90,95,96,00,05,08,10,14 and 16. I'm not sure about 09 and 15 now but time will tell in terms of quality. If you don't like the wines because of stylistic preference,...

Re: The fraud that is Grand Puy Lacoste.

Ridiculous thread, i am sorry to say, Jim.
As far as i can oversee numerous vintages since 1989, this chateau is an overperformer in its 5th cru classification. Some vintages may have been mediocre since, but there is much more to be positive about. Just my 2cts.

Every decade has its own style. 80s wines seemed to taste quite young and dull to me comparing to 50s and 60s stuff. Nonetheless I still think your right. Not sure what the 80s will taste in 20 or 30 years time. We' ll see.
