2015 Lanessan

Oddly it is a bit too polished. Smooth, with ripe tannin and black fruits. Historically there was always a bit of coarseness that needed time to age, much like Sociando Mallet or La Lagune or Meyney. I fear the 2015 is a bit too man-made for me and on day 3 it didn't show the structure to hold up li...

Re: Comparing Bordeaux Vintages 2015 vs 2016

From what I have tasted, 2016 is a fresher version of 2015. It's balanced power, fruit and acid which isn't that easy in BDX with the climate. 2015 is very good too though. 2014 will end up like 2004, there will be some very good wines at fair prices due to future vintage hype.

Re: 2016 Chateau de Cruzeau

Have always thought Couhins-Lurton Blanc and Rouge were the best wines in the Lurton stable, better than La Louviere even. Decade ago we did a La Louviere vertical with Mssr. Lurton, most from their cellar were drying out or over the hill. Some like the 1990 showed alright, but many years that shoul...

2014 Les Carmes Haut-Brion, Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux

2014 Les Carmes Haut-Brion to give a shot. Popped and poured in decanter for 3 hours after assuring it wasn't flawed. Has a nose of macerated blackberry, black cherry, plum, smoke, graphite, flowers and a faint hint of savory herbs in the background. Very primary, with lots of purple fruits and flor...

2010 Barde Haut, Saint Emilion, Bordeaux

High pitched nose with smoke, black and blue fruits, licorice, florals and earth. Palate is supple and integrated with graphite, black cherry, plums and cassis, with a savory lick of acid that keeps it from being too polished. Long finish and very enjoyable wine with 5-10 years ahead of it to hit pe...

Re: 2003 Bordeaux -- is anyone else skeptical?

As I commented elsewhere I respectfully disagree on PB, and looking at your suspicious on CS too. I wouldn't expect Branaire or Duhart to be great wines at 15 years in 375ml. Fully expect PB to look like 88 or 89 in 10 years and wouldn't risk my money betting against CS. I would sit on a case of Pon...

For the consumer....good for quality and availability, bad for cost of acquisition.

Re: TN: 2015 Haut Bergey, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux

This was far from over-oaked or extracted. It was polished and glossy though. Tough to beat for $23 as a cellar defender and 3 to 6 year window.

I paid $29. Paid $35 at TWM locally just to try one sooner. Yes, sounds reasonable. Can't get Margaux like this for less than $50 from a similar quality producer IMO.

TN: Chateau Labegorce, Margaux, Bordeaux 2015

Having had the 2014 recently, interesting to taste the 2015. The nose on the 2015 is classic Margaux black cherry, red plum, barrel spice and floral notes in a feminine mode. Palate is plush with red and black fruits, floral notes from flowers, licorice and earth. Structured with refreshing acidity....

Two surprises, the under performing Pichon Lalande, and the over performing Ducru Beaucaillou.

Thanks for sharing notes.

TN: 2015 Haut Bergey, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux

Tasting thru some 2015s trying to figure out some wines for my kiddos cousin so they both have some wine later in life. Always liked this producer, even with some mixed 2015 reviews. Black cherry, red plum, with notes of spice and purple flowers. Palate is open and smooth after a 3 hour decant. Red ...
