Re: Last week TN, but no Bordeaux

I've drunk few vintages of Chapoutier's Bernardine, always satisfied and impressed, and have always thought that this continue to fly under the CdP radar. Last memorable one was a 1993, which was a less than so-so vintage, and the La Bernardine outperformed.

TN: 2006 Ch. Haut Lagrange, Pessac-Leognan

Herb, wood, smoke and that unmistakeable young Bordeaux nose. Tannic, young and medium-bodied, it showed to be just appropriately accessible tonight with notes of black currant and lean red fruit. A good level of acidity, there were also specks of ground white pepper. No hard edges. It’s the first t...

TNs: Cos d'Estournel ... multiple vintages

Belated TNs on a vertical last July 19. This time it was about the wines from the ‘hills of pebbles at Estournel’. The venue was at Mortons Steakhouse in midtown NYC, where 8 fun Bordeaux-geeks shared an enjoyable evening of wines and good food. There were no major guffaws at Moron’s this time aroun...

TNs: Matt farewll dinner with Bdx, Alsace, Burgs and Cali

Matt’s last offline with us, as he crosses the Hudson and into New Zealand for a couple of years. Over the years, he’s done us local Bordeaux-geeks very well with what he called “figure-head” minimal-work off line organizing and he will be missed … at least until 2013. Here’s my $.02 on our wines du...

If that's just a problem with the '03, maybe I should try the '06 or some other vintage. Yes, you should try earlier vintages. I've only had a few vintages up to 2002, so far. I very much liked the '95, not flabby and true-to-Graves form, imho, but could use many more years of cellar time; also lik...

Thanks for the notes Jacques. Nice set of wines on what I can picture as a nice Sunday barbecue. I've liked almost all of the Guigal's Ampuis that I've tasted, but can't recall having one from 2000 onwards. I like 2004 Rhones, so that 2004 Guigal' note falls in place with the vintage style that I li...

Tom: I did check winesearcher after I posted and saw that the closest place to buy for me is DC. I'm not much into rich and full rosé, anyway. Given the pricing in the teens I'm normally inclined to buy, but probably won't regret not buying this one. I've been drinking more of Baudry's 2010 Chinon R...

I've never gone to PC for a measly $10/btl savings. And I've always received every bottle, up until the '05s. One of the few 2004 that I liked enough to purchase a few of was the 2004 L'Eglise Clinet. I've not had it since I tasted on release, and I recall that this plus the Palmer, were the standouts. Good data point.

I didn't know that 1995 was a hot vintage, much less "off". However, speaking of modern producers, I remember having a couple of good-to-very-good 1995 Luciano Sandrone during the last year.
