Of the ones that I drank, I'ver re-filled on Domaine de la Pepiere Sevre-et-Maine and Marc Olivier Clos de Briords of which I have a couple of 2008's waiting for some oysters from Wild Edibles. I find them to be excellent summer quaffer and they go ver...

I'm going with the d'Armailhac. May need to go the extra period, though. My last taste of this was about 2 years ago and recalled that it got much better during the last moments of our dinner at home.

Thanks for the follow-up on the notes. I actually have a case of this in my offsite storage and I was interested in the "when should I open my bottles" portion. I actually went through about 3 bottles of these about 2-3 years ago and just couldn't find time to dig out my TNs. But just like...

For what it's worth, here are my belated notes. 1980’s Bordeaux Fabio Piccolo Fiore, NYC 06/18/2010 A fun night, just as it usually were, when brothers Patrick and Brendan show up in town and we get together for some dinner, with lots of Bordeaux and plenty of laughs. TNs: Graves, Sancerre and a Peruvian

1979 Domaine de Chevalier, Graves Quite fresh-looking cherry red in color, but has that slight brownish tint about the rim. Lots of leather, mint, and cigar on the mature nose. Started out with sweet cherries, showed fine sweet tannin, bursts of acidity and smooth in the mouth. Then, at about the 2...

Montrose. Just like Alex, this is mostly knee-jerk reaction to Patrick’s question. But to my recollection, this chateau’s vintages from the 80’s onward have not wowed me on a consistent basis. Only the 1982 (a pleasant surprise to me given the relatively OK regards amidst the high praises bestowed t...

Re: TN: 1996 Château Léoville Barton (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

I happen to prefer the Poyferre to the Barton in 1982 and 1990, though both made excellent wines. Haven't tried the 2000 versions side-by-side since they were babies, and thought they were pretty close back then. Me too. I liked the Poyferre much more than the Barton in 82 and 90. Thanks for the notes guys. Those are some very good wines in the lineup.

I love both the 83 PLL and the 89 Palmer. I'm one of the few that gives the slight edge to the 83 PLL, touch of green notwithstanding.

Great notes, Ramon. Glad to hear the 1996 S&M is finally softening and sweetening. Many 1996s seem very close to entering their plateau of maturity-- I think the tannins are in manageable state right now, but the fruit is still in hiding for many of the best wines. Thanks blanquito. I had a bot...

1996 Ch. Sociando-Mallet, Haut-Medoc Dense black plum with the hint of garnet at the rim. Leather, herb, cigar on the nose.
