Re: TNs: Stepping on a few s&#t in the Iberian minefield.
I'm with you, Patrick, that the 2001 Pesquera is a great wine. I also liked the 2004s when I tasted upon release and have a few stashed away. Wow, $22 for a Muga Reserva is a great find. It might be hard to source at this price today. I've had a few from 1994 (have a couple stashed away) and have en...

TNs: Stepping on a few s&#t in the Iberian minefield.
Just following up on Blanquito's thread about Spanish wines with these TNs. TN’s on a few Spanish wines that I was able to retain my notes on. All of them young, as they were purchased with meals at various restaurants last week. 2005 Bodegas y Vinedos Alion, Ribera del Duero This was quite good. Ju...

Never used the Garage Band feature, but I've been a satisfied Mac convert for 6+ years now. Although, it doesn't hurt to have a cheap low-end PC as a 2nd laptop at home.
Looking forward to hearing your band's recordings.

I'm good with the d'Issan, and everything is shaping up nicely.
I'd rather ask this question over here as I consider this is as a BWE-planned event, but should you start a wait list to compensate for any last-minute drop-out?

Yep. I saw the overwhelming response. Good job, Blanquito. I'm up for 8 or 10 and can make a request at Allegretti's if we decide with the latter. However, capping at 8 is my preference, and it may sound a little greedy, but it provides for more pours for everybody. Also, conversations tend to becom...

Re: Pre-Thanksgiving dinner at the Tribeca Grill
TNs: Bordeaux, quasi-Bordeaux, Italian, Burgundy, and some blues licks. 5 wine enthusiasts got together for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner at Tribeca Grill and, since the event was pretty much put together on-the-fly, the theme remained simply as any wines that we’d feel like drinking. The White Burgundi...

1996 Château Cos d’Estournel St. Estephe . This one opens up just a bit musty and has us a little worried until it begins to blow off. Behind that are full-blown aromas of sweet black currant fruit, green pepper, bacon fat and leafy menthol that grow and become more darkly expressive the longer one...

Re: 1986 Prieure-Lichine
Maybe I came across too negatively regarding the 86's, because I was really impressed with the wines we tasted at the BWE '86 tasting just over a year ago. The massive structure is still apparent, but the wines are coming around nicely, much better than the typical great growth 1975 or 1966. I was ...

I've had good showing from a 1982 and a 1983 that I had early this year. I've been holding off on the lone 1986 as I am quite aware of the tannin level when I first had this years ago. Thanks for the TN and the data point.
BTW, may I assume that this is the Ch. PRIEURE-Lichine from Margaux?

Most 2007 Chateauneufs are now over-priced, and some domaines are now always over-priced (Clos de Papes, take a bow). Re: Notes from an impressive Chianti tasting
About 2 years ago, I BYOB'd a 1988 Ruffino Riserva Ducale at a neighborhood Italian place. The wine was definitely softer, but had sufficient structure and acidity to go well with the red-sauced stuff that we ordered. I'd say an 89-90 pointer. I had bought the bottle at a local Costco in the mid-199...

1981 Ch. Ducru-Beeaucaillou, Saint-Julien Earthy, leafy herb, leather and tobacco nose. A well-stored bottle showing good bursts of acidity, with some good slight green notes, mineral, and lean black fruit. This was good. B+ 1998 Ch. Magdelaine, Saint-Emilion Meat and wood notes. Fine sweet tannin,...

2003 Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca . This smells totally roasted and stewed, eventually coming to smell like a raspy garbage can from a seedy alley somewhere. It is foul. In the mouth (why did I do this to myself?), it is much the same—brutally dried out, tannic and stewed, with a painful acerbic edge....

I only want to add that most of the 2000s that I've opened are non-classified, or near/at the bottom of the growth classification scheme. Imho, that makes the vintage to be more successful to me - that even the so-called low-end wines are performing well.
