Re: TNs - why bother?

I write notes so that others can benefit from my experience and my experience with the wine. I read them to gauge when to drink my wine. I also like to occasionally reflect back on what I thought about a wine several years ago.

Re: 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco

Understood. Some searching does indeed make the origin look like bad translation on French and Italian winery websites, probably intended to mean sunny. The hipster wine writers seemed to have picked it up, as you said in the last couple of years. Seriously though, any of the words you suggested ab...

Re: 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco

Yeah -- I've read reference to the term many times in the past few years. It's not something I'm originating. I believe the origin is translation from either French or Italian wine circles. It's easy to relate to though -- it's the outlier heat years. 2013 in Piedmont is not 2015 or or 2003 or 2009 ...

Re: 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco

Jim, I'm glad you like it! Others can be more informative than I on the qualities of Nebbiolo since I'm only beginning my journey in understanding it. On my first sip of the 2015 I really dug the earthy, rustic quality of it. I also opened a bottle at Thanksgiving and it was a great match with dinn...

Re: 2015 Produttori del Barbaresco

I had a lot of Nebbiolo over the weekend. A highlight, among a lot of great wines, was the 2013 Vajra Bricco della Viole. That's going to be really nice in a few years. Tasted the 2000 PdB Montestefano (from mag) with the 2013 Montestefano. There actually was a resemblance between the two wines. The...

Re: interesting wb thread on bdx

Claudius, 2023 sounds like a good idea. I have 10 left, having only had it twice now since release. I'll check in then and likely sell it if it's not getting better. I agree with David that the wine didn't scream 2003. I don't think I would have pegged it for that vintage. Again -- if a wine is all ...

Re: interesting wb thread on bdx

Claudius, There's little in your post I disagree with. I didn't say that the more modern and riper / higher alcohol modern vintages don't or won't age. I do believe, however, that they age differently and personally, I find some of them less interesting and often comparatively monolithic as they get...

Love that wine... a favorite for sure.

Had a screaming good bottle of 1996 Ducru Beaucaillou last night, along with an equally impressive bottle of 2001 Ch d'Yquem. Sadly, a bottle of 1990 Gaja Sperss was corked.

Re: 2001 Bordeaux tasting in London

I opened a bottle of the 2001 La Tour Carnet a couple of weeks ago. I remember really liking it in the first few years after release. This bottle, while good, was pretty oaky. The oak kind of stood out for me and seemed rough -- like some or all of it might have been American oak. I suspect that's n...

Re: The fraud that is Grand Puy Lacoste.

For what it is worth -- I have a GPL story. One of my good friends from an old tasting group bought a lot of 1994 GPL. On release, it was notably green and quite tannic. I remember pissing him off by telling him to stop bringing it as it was crap. I used the adjective 'watery' in describing it. When...

Arguing with someone who wants to say that GPL is piss-water is like going on a BMW forum and seeing someone rant that the Audis suck. It's pointless. To say Jim's opinion is contrarian is kind. I like GPL. So does just about every professional critic. So do all my wine friends. And, having tasted G...

TN: 2003 Duhart Milon Pauillac

Dark, healthy garnet color. Nose is very powerful. Green coffee bean I associate with Pomerol. Some smokiness, a bit of the '03 praline quality, oak/vanillin and a touch of heat and very light volatility -- but, nothing offensive. Savory and round on the palate, but less generous than the nose might...
