Aging time of 6L vs 750ml

Hi all-

Is there a general feel of how much slower larger format wines ages compared to a standard? For example, a 40 year 6L vs a 40 year 750. Is it possible to say the 6L tastes and feels xYears younger?

Re: 1995 Gloria?

Oi vay. Sounds like that will be a good party. Good idea for quaffing to serve just one vintage/estate/grape. I always get vexed when multiple bottles are out and I see folks mixing stuff.... (or adding ice cubes....) Oh dear gosh, that’s a nightmare. Thankfully, my friends at this party know wine....

Re: 1998 Chateau Musar

@Blanquito - I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first. It was so acidic and a bit harsh. At the two hour mark it became enjoyable. It was at the five hour mark that it really impressed me. I forgot to mention the black tea notes mixed with the leather and cigar. I can’t remember another wine quite like ...

Dang. 5 hours of air and this was heaven. Started super acidic, volatile. 5 hours on it was leather and tobacco choking raspberry and cherry.

Where has it been stored? I'd be surprised if someone was taking awesome temperature controlled care of a bottle of this over the last quarter century since it was more of a drinkers wine when it was released, rather than a collectible Hi AKR-- I bought it from K&L. It was a 12 bottle case in o...

1995 Gloria?

Hi-

I haven’t posted for a long time because a large shipment of wine was cooked in late April last year.

I’m curious if any of you have tried the 95 Gloria and what you think of it.

Thanks

Re: 2000 Sociando Mallet: Stunning.

It means it needs another 5 years, BH2K, as Blanquito often likes his wines on the older side. To double blanquito or triple blanquito a wine means to hold it for 10 or 15 years respectively, etc. To "how" a wine means to drink it young, as I, JimHow, often like to drink my wines young. T...

Thank you, both! I have a spare fridge in the garage. Maybe I can turn the temp up to the high 40's. Besides, having them in that fridge will help the other problem (having to stare at them and know I can't open them every single day).

Short-Term Storage Question

I have a big event in June for which I am storing a lot of wine, and I am out of space in my cooler. My cellar will be too hot and dry heading into the summer. Is it okay to store Sauternes and whites in a kitchen refrigerator for 2 months? Thank you in advance.

I’m not surprised the 70 Haut Bailly was still good. The 66 was terrific last month, and in general 1970 bordeaux that were well-made and well-stored still taste good to me. Now, folks like Alex and Stu are likely to have had these wines through the years and so would be in the position to say thes...

I popped the 1970 Haut-Bailly over the weekend, and while I didn't take notes or pictures, I can tell you that it was really good. It didn't seem thin or dying at all. Alex - I did stumble upon a '98 H-B, and I should have it in my cellar soon. I'm hosting a 3-day wine and dinner party in June, and ...

My interest is purely academic, and perhaps a time-lapse vertical. I've experienced the 1966, 1981, and soon the 1970. I may have had a late '80s, but I can't remember. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the '98.

...of 1970 Chateau Haut-Bailly. There are no CT tasting notes newer than late 2016, which were mostly positive. I doubt I will be dissuaded, because a fool and his money, you know, but I'm curious if anybody at BWE has any insight into this.

2012 Chateau Landat Vielles Vignes

I have a few very special bottles of old Bordeaux that I am holding onto for a special occasion (not a specific one, just has to be the right time), and it is starting to get hot where I live. So I didn’t want to open my ‘85 Chateau Poujeaux, and I didn’t have any good back ups. Picked up two more of the 2010 St. Ahon, and a 2010 Peyrabon. All 3 maderized. Popped the ‘85, corked. Has this ever happened to another human being ever? If I don’t laugh, I’ll cry!
