So if there is still availability, Janet and would be in. I like the smaller dinners.

Re: A Very BWE Night, Largest Gathering Since Covid

It was a very good night. Thanks Joel for organizing, and Ben for hosting. The weather was perfect and the condo courtyard was fantastic. I generally agree with the '85 Lalande as my WOTN. with the ''01 Lalande and '95 GPL following up. I was surprised how much I liked the 2008 Ducru. Maybe cause it...

Re: BWE 20th Anniversary Dinner DC - Witness the Carnage

Janet and I had great time. Thanks for Marc S for getting the venue all set up! It was great meeting everyone who flew in for the event. So. many. good. wines. The food was quite good as well. I agree with the sentiment that alot of the wines started to blend together. Generally I was really happy h...

Re: Wine threads for BWE DC 2020 -- what are you bringing?

Question, how are the wine glasses at Bisto Cacao and Bistro Bis? I think I remember the cabernet/bordeaux stems at Bistro Cacao were acceptable, but I've only been to Bistro Bis once or twice and I don't recall. I can also bring decanters if needed.

Re: Wine threads for DWE DC 2020 -- what are you bringing?

If you need 2000s, I can bring a 1-2 bottles of 2000 Leoville Barton and also lower growth chateau like Château Haut-Bages Libéral if you need more 2000s. Especially since its looking like we will have plenty of champagne for saturday even without my mag of Belle Epoque.

My plan is to bring:

Friday: 2x 2007 Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, 1945 Château Prieuré du Monastir del Camp Rivesaltes + TBD
Saturday: Magnum 1990 Belle Epoque, 2 x 2000 Lur-Saluces. I'll bring a 76 pichon baron, 90 Figeac, or 70 La Gaffiere. In case we dont need the 2nd bottle of Ygrec.

Re: 2019 Bordeaux EP Campaign

Well, I guess the missing question would be is whether the vintage is crap or good? as for me, I'm done buying long term agers as I like my Bordeaux with 25+ years of age so will only buy a case of daily drinkers.

If you need a couple people, I could reach out to some people. Marco and Lonnie are both friends and have been to many dinners together, and I could try to see if a couple more people I know could make it.

Re: MARCH 7th DINNER AT BISTRO CACAO: PUTTING DOWN $500 DEPOSIT

ok. Are we sure we are only going with 1 bottle of each wine? A 1-ounce tasting pour gives 25 tiny portions. We plan on bringing a magnum of 1990 Belle Epoque, and double of 2000 Lur-Saluces "Y". I may try to find 2 more bottles before the dinner.

...I would much prefer to drink wines when young and vibrant than tired, dried out old wines which no longer have any fruit and smell musty. One of the few points I agree with RP on. I think everyone would agree with you on this! The rub of course is one person’s ‘tired’ is another person’s ‘prime ...

This looks great. Thanks David! looking at this menu. I may nix my idea of bringing some young-ish Saxum, but I know I'll bring 2 bottles of 2007 Valentini Trebbiano. Now to figure a second wine. Maybe a magnum of older Bandol, or some older Jura rouge? I'll have to think as I don't have a lot of ma...

Re: 2016 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva

It never occurred to me to me to drink the Felsina CCR and Rancia under 15 years of age. I feel like they need ALOT of time, obviously the Rancia more. I've always just found a wall of tannins or a very closed wine and under 10 year, and since I like more mature wines, I prefer at 15, or better yet ...

I voted any pinot, but my second choices would be free-for-all or Rhone. I just don't see Bistro Bis's food going with alot of Italian wine, with some rare exceptions.

Thanks for the note. I had the 2008 Pol Roger BdB a few weeks ago. I didnt take notes but I liked the body and brioche notes. I was a bit surprised that the 2008 didnt have strong acid bite, but maybe that's because it was very balanced vs. some others i've tried.

With a french pot roast and risotto we had a 1998 Ravenswood Merlot Gregory Vineyard. It was an odd wine. Ok, not great. Nice mature flavors, but had a weird sour cherry note that I associate with cheaper red wines that are getting too old.

Thanks for organizing Marcus! The 97 Clos Vougeot was the 1997 Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils Clos Vougeot, the MV Krug was pre-Id, and based upon the bottle, released between 2004 and 2011.

I really enjoyed all the wines! I will post my thoughts later when I get a chance.

Interesting, I grabbed a 1994 Pontet Canet for dinner. It just started to come alive after 2 hrs in the decanter. Would have been interesting to follow in for a couple more hours. Overall... good, but not great. I was reminded of the term "luncheon claret"

It was a very fun night! Janet and I had a great time meeting Ian, and loved the wines! I finally registered, so I will be around. Interestingly, I was more taken with the 1995 Canon la Gaffeliere than the Trotanoy. I felt the Trotanoy didn't open up as well as I wanted. As for the other wines, I th...
