Re: Buying 2020 futures is hard to justify.
One thing that 2020 has going for it is that it seems to be a lower ABV vintage, generally speaking (unless it was the tariffs talking that souped up the 2019 EP samples). I've resisted the temptation to buy 2020 by buying more 2019, but I have been looking at Brane-Cantenac...

Perhaps, but I don't think PA will end up being so close - Biden will win it by closer to 2%tim wrote:Every single one of these close states are going to go into a recount. If we thought 2000 was bad, this will drag on for a long time, even after a winner is declared.

With the possibility of AZ going blue, there is a good chance that Trump is re-elected via electoral college tie.

You're darn tootin', I'm in a nasty mood. Hah, that I can tell. I don't deny that millenial voting participation has lagged behind their Gen X and boomer counterparts, but the language just seemed... extreme. Surely every generation bears blame for our current problems; it hardly seems useful to la...

I ended up buying 6x Lynch Bages@$86 and 3x Pontet Canet@80.
Given storage costs here in NYC, I'm not convinced I'm making an optimal decison. But sometimes, you just gotta say f it and pull the trigger.

The Lynch Bages was pretty classy stuff at the UGCB tasting. Buy it all!

I've been mostly holed up at home and it's tough to assess the damage while everything is in lockdown. But I do dread the possibility that we'll emerge from lockdown to find a city we no longer recognize. I also believe that the city and many other cities will rebound very quickly once the virus is ...

Sorry Jim, thought it was a comment on the social distancing measures in place, not the lack thereof exhibited by the protesters. I don't doubt your own adherence to your region's guidelines. I suspect that these social distancing measures will prove to have been overdone in less densely populated a...

Just got word that the opera season in NYC is cancelled through Dec. 31st. It is sad that hundreds of people will lose their jobs but thank goodness, heaven forbid that anyone should be in close proximity to each other.... So if one were to weigh counterparty risk, previously I had mostly thought about retailers. However, given how well retailers are doing, I would think it's the distributors/importers who are more likely to go out of business, given the loss of restaurant sales?

Re: Leoville Barton with Damien Sartorius Barton
I thought the Langoa Barton held its own with the Leoville Barton at the 2016 vintage UGC tasting. Seems like the Barton family knows what it's doing. I must say though, It's hard for me to pay 110+ for the 2016 L-B.
When I bought the 2016 on futures, it hardly felt like a bargain even at ~90.

I bought nearly a case of Krug halves back when wine.com had those coupons. We're plowing through it pretty quickly now. Wife wants to drink good stuff after working in the ER, and frankly, I'm all in if we're both going to be hooked up to vents in a month.

Re: Wine in the age of the corona.
I'm still cautiously skeptical. Looks like China is coming out of it with, what, 3,500 deaths? Out of 1.4 billion. Looks like Italy, one of the hundreds of nations on the globe, has a little more than that. Sounds like that one country on the globe has a real crisis, we should do whatever we can to...

Zachy's has a 20% off coupon WEMISSU20, good for even sale items. Lot of good deals to be had with the coupon, including on 2008 Dom ($128 each on a 3 pack) and 168 eme Krug ($135 each on a 6 pack), since it stacks on sale items. Coupon expires tonight I believe.

Would it be conceivable that even EP itself is delayed? Without tastings/scores, a staggering global economy, and general panic, I can't imagine worse timing for this all to get started. Perhaps things will look much better by then.

I think that's a bit overdramatic, dhp. A few comments in one thread among hundreds about whether to attend a few chateaux in Bordeaux is hardly "extremely troubling and dangerous." This site has been in existence for over 20 years and we have generally been tolerant of each other's views...

1996 Rauzan Segla is on deck to be drunk. As for the actual topic at hand, whether I buy into the 2019 campaign is purely based on pricing. I won't be tempted by any vintage of the century talk. Given the pricing trends of the last several EP campagins, combined with tariffs and now a slowing global...

Jal, The math doesn't make sense. Italy has 10k cases with 631 deaths and if the RO is so high why aren't the numbers higher and likewise in China. Flu infected 35,000,000 americans in 2018-19 with 35k deaths even with a good immunization program in place. Without effective immunization the numbers...

I must side with Alex on his arguments of fake news. The media is causing a mass hysteria and everyone is falling right into the pit. Yes covid-19 is a bug the world has never seen and there is no immunity but it shown to be far less infectious than influenza A. The latter is barely mentioned in th...
