So what should I buy

Fun little exercise and I’d love advice from you all. I am purging my cellar of a fair amount of new world wine (about $10K+) and restocking with wines from Bordeaux. Given that I am approaching the rope old age of 57, and I have quite a bit from ‘00 already, I am focusing on backfilling from the ‘9...

Re: What Should I Serve?

So I served the ‘78 PLL, and it was a great bottle. Everything I love about the estate. Smooth, undertones of roasted fruit, and really elegant. Thank you for your input.

Out of town guest, whom I only see 1x per year. One of my closest friends. Choices are:

1970 La Conseillante
1978 PLL
1979 PLL
1983 PLL

Advice welcomed. Tasting note to follow.

9681 days past

Exactly 27 years ago, Lisa and I got married here in Dallas. We bought this in a small shop outside of Treviso in Northern Italy on our honeymoon, at a time when we knew nothing about wine, especially compared to what you all have taught me. It’s singing now, as are we.

For those of you looking to do a deep dive as to why the indictment reads the way it does, I heartily recommend the following law review article published months ago, but which was clearly in the special prosecutor’s mind when he drafted it: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=425665...

All the comments about Obama and Clinton are mere whataboutisms. They don’t make innoculate Trump from charges in the indictment. But it does make me long for British rule again; at least the politicians across the pond have the decency to resign when they are caught disgracing their office.

I am sure of four things: 1st, The Orange Julius would be better served by having Jim representing him than any of the motley crew that he has assembled in the past (most of whom have now resigned or been fired); 2nd, underestimating the appeal of the “Dicks will be Dickish” argument is a short walk...

Clive Coates used to rate wines using a 20-point scale that translated like this: •19.0-20.0: Excellent, the best •16.5-18.5: Very good to very fine indeed •15.0-16.0: Good to very good •13.5-14.5: Quite good •12.0-13.0: Not bad, average •10.0-11.5: Disappointing, if not poor •Less than 10.0: Somewh...

I will confess to having had very few bottles (‘82, ‘75 from Tim, ‘89 and ‘90, and now ‘83) but each time I have thought that along with PLL and Palmer it’s exactly what I want out of an aged Bordeaux, even if it was not WOTN.
