WHOLE LOTTA LAFITE - Wine Watch, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (1/26/2024-1/27/2024) I've tasted a number of vintages of Lafite and even done some verticals, but I still felt I had not grasped the Lafite style and confirmed its reputation for longevity. So, time to put on a significant vertical of the Ch...

A thoughtful, reasoned and measured interview. I was surprised to hear about the lack of anger among the locals but learning the history of Lewiston helped partially to explain it. Would that there were more sadness than anger when necessary in other horrible circumstances.

1961

This is for all time. But for drinking now, 1961 would probably fall to third place since most have faded. But the very few best are still glorious. Even a fair number of '82s are slipping :( .

Bravo, Ian!

I’ve found Cheval Blanc to be more inconsistent that the FGs. Vintages such as ‘64, ‘66, ‘82 and ‘90 vary from fabulous to mediocre. Of course some of that is due to provenance but some seems due to other factors.

But 2002 Cristal is reliably wonderful and fully in the zone.

I wonder if 1970 Latour is old school, the way Lynch Bages is a totally different animal pre-1982 than it was in the '80s post-82. I gave AKR a bottle of 1970 Lynch at NYC '03 and that was a totally different wine from what we know Lynch to be from the '80s on: earthy, rustic, tobacco, etc. . . I'm...
