Re: Guide Hachette 2024

Yes, 2022 is looking quite good! Ratings are quite a process. You have to spend a fair amount of time reading the instructions on how to read the book because each review has a series of conventions that are pretty cryptic. But once you get past that it makes sense. It is not simplified, which is go...

Guide Hachette 2024

In France, the Guide Hachette is considered one of the best references for wine. The ratings pages are very useful:

We take so much for granted. When your biggest complaint of the day is that you paid too much for a Ch. Montrose (or insert fav name here) that is past its prime, then savour that Montrose because you are in a place where the world is good. I used to worry about losing my hair until my brother had c...

I can confirm that Polident is a miracle cleaner. carafe2.jpg https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wf2RzLkjpYvYJvG_FYJHSaeMetu-z6KL/view?usp=sharing I've soaked this in white vinegar and scrubbed with a special brush. Also tried ice and salt. Is there a trick to getting this clean? It comes from the Cas...

I would love to host a BWE in Tampa. March is the best month of the year in FL (imho). November works too. Where are you located Jacques? @jal

Decanter stains

I've soaked this in white vinegar and scrubbed with a special brush. Also tried ice and salt. Is there a trick to getting this clean? It comes from the Casino Royale d'Evian, so I would like to restore it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W3kE50bB2ObZ4JuFKIOhqtKdjVoht0nG/view?usp=sharing carafe.jpg

Hmmm...so the question is what '82 is a 26-28 y.o. likely to get in an seating outside restaurant, prob small town local pub, in England (heath is the key there)? My guess is...not a Bordeaux. Maybe though. A large vinyard. One of the Leovilles...Poyferre. Voila.

Re: BWE France 2023?

I'm a definite maybe. We may be in France by then so who knows. Of course I would be very interested in a Bourgogne trip. No offense to the BWE but it is more indicative of France and generally more beautiful. But the wines in the photos are clearly superior, reds anyway.

40(!) witnesses. You must be wiped Jim. I hope you get some rest. I suggest a good glass of red.

Garagiste up in Seattle carries a range and offers them via email during the year, that being said, it's not immediate gratification. K&L also direct imports a bunch, and I've bought some from there as well. If you do the wine.com foolishness, they will also have some. ============= I realize t...

Vins de Savoie

It's fondue and raclette weather! Wondering where in the US I can find vins de Savoie. The wife is from there. A red Mondeuse is asking too much but would love to find that too. totalwine.com is negative for all of the above. Thank you! Steve

Wow. That is one heck of a 12-day trip. I would be happy to do that in a lifetime! I'm a fan of small vinyards and would love to see a trip like this done exclusively with "vignerons independants"...if you are looking for ideas! Steve https://www.vigneron-independant.com/appellation-vin/bo...

Decanting

I would love to hear thoughts from people smarter than me on decanting. Specifically, older vintages and different regions. For example, would you decant a 1964 Vosne-Romanee at all (yeah, I know, this is Bordeaux)? How long for a 1983 Phelan Segur for example? Or a 2005 Cote-Rotie (I know...). Or s...
