Re: The 2019 Chateau Langoa Barton has been uncorked....

I've been looking to pick up some more Langoa for my cellar (2019 and/or 2020). However, reading some notes makes it sound like they made a pretty modern styled wine these vintages. I don't drink much from this property...is this typically their style? I always thought of them as a lighter, easy dri...

Wax Closures

Is this becoming a trend in Bordeaux recently? I've come across a couple of chateaux using wax closures. I just received some 2020's, and my 2020 Nenin had it installed. That reminded me about my 2019 Gruaud-Larose that had wax too. I have a shipment coming with 2020 Gruaud-Larose...not sure if thes...

Re: Chateau Meyney 2019

Alex, There is nothing, I mean nothing even remotely close to Meyney coming out of California in that price range. I have been let down again and again by the Napa Cabs of the world (not to mention most of these producers are now charging in the $75-$100...for their entry bottling!). I think I got m...

Re: Three California Wines

I agree, Jim. There is a boatload of mediocre Cabs coming out of Napa. The thing is, with the 2019 vintage, prices started to skyrocket. I remember paying around 20% less for previous vintages (which I still thought was high). Now, Napa is almost dead to me. As you said about Giscours...what can one...

Jim, I believe you are correct with 16%. I can even one-up you with another wine...a 2014 Anderson's Conn Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon came in at 16.2% on the label. I couldn't believe it, but the alcohol was not at all noticeably...a very decent wine actually.

Correct. While my personal interest is with the more classical producers, I figured I would look for a more modern producer for my nephew. He has tried wine in the past, and while not really "into it" as of yet, he does like it. He "wasn't sure" if he liked the 2014 Sociando Mall...

Thank you for the article, Dionysus...very good read! Now that has me rethinking a couple of others. I researched the Haut-Bailly, and that seems pretty solid too. White wine with skin contact. I had my first one in 2016 at the Finger Lakes...Shaw Vineyard. It was a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris (IIRC). While not bad, I just didn't like it enough to purchase. IMO, I think it's more of a fad in the states...more popular with the natural wine movement ...

I'm in the same boat. I don't really seek out Clerc Milon, but I usually like it when I do have it. That 2014 note of yours sounds right in my wheelhouse.
