6x OWC of 2023 Pontet. Probably won't buy many this year but couldn't resist.

2016 Enclos Tournmaline

Color is beautiful and deep but not quite opaque. Pop and pour was redder fruited and nose was reticent. Took a sip then decided to decant for a few hours. Gained weight quickly and opened up. Violets and baking blackberry pie on the nose. Fresh blueberries everywhere on the palate with some clove. ...

2020 Troplong Mondot

So very different than the 2015 which I tried last year based on a few posts in BWE. Day 1 a little reticent but dark fruit and felt just a little bit disjointed. Day 2 shows very lively and even a little red fruited and much more harmonious. The new Troplong still has body but also has a steely pur...

Re: 2019 Leoville Barton

Inky royal purple color. Nose is blackberry pie, herbal and chocolatey. Hard to say how a young wine could find better balance. Incredibly pure fruit, acid, fine tannins and structured. Black and blue fruited and graphitic. A little tar and anise. Beautiful and long finish. Near the top of the 2019s...

Such a perfect time for me to get into Bordeaux. Piled on about 12 cases worth of futures across quite a few labels. Mostly 3 or 6 bottles. The reduced prices and all the cashback tricks really made for some absurd pricing. Only regret is that I didn't dive into the first growths. Will have to try a...

Had good feelings about the 2016 Malescot last week as well. Just received some 2020s. Loved the 2020 DDC. Will have to try a 2020 Calon soon.

Definitely more polished than the 2020 DDC and not as much acidity. Nowhere near an oaky and chubby Napa cab though.

2016 Malescot

Drank over the evening. Not much change over 4-5 hours. More restrained than the 2020 DDC but not closed off. Floral, linens, fresh raspberry on the nose. Palate of pure and clean black cherry, stone, and some eucalyptus. Some blueberry pokes through with some baking spice. Flows effortlessly. Very ...

Back half turns more cherry and floral. To me just excellent balance to be found here even at this young age. Consistent flowing tannins ...

Re: 2020 DDC

Any thoughts on a 2019/20 comparison vintages in general yet, PM, or is it too early? Dangerous going purely from memory - the 2019 I had wasn't properly documented (terribly shameful I know). I think the 2020 is a bit juicier and fruit is more prominent. 2020 is not in any way overdone though. 14 ...

While there are major challenges in the world right now, I am not yet convinced that things are all downhill. World War I and II as well as parts of the Cold War likely felt awfully bleak. It was once viewed as a near certainty that nuclear war between the US and Soviets would end humanity as we kno...

Didnt disappoint. Went very well with the flank steak. Quite open for business. Not as big as the 2018 at least as I recall - but nothing wrong with that. Costco is sort of dumping 2019s like crazy these days... Tried 2019 FC maybe 10 days ago. The guest had popped and poured (I would have given some air). It started out fairly decent on the nose and had some weight on the palate, but I felt didn’t have the legs to go the distance as time progressed....

I cant say whether the 2019 will age well but as noted both my wife and I were impressed. I recall good structure and acidity and no heat from the 14.5 percent at all. I'll probably just drink the couple others I have in the next few years anyway.

Nose jumps out of the bottle and the glass with a baked berry fruit tart, menthol, asphalt and dark chocolate. Perhaps I was having a good nose day today, but I dont think I've enjoyed just taking in the aromas from a wine so much in quite some time. Elegant and balanced. Red and blue fruit dominate...

The Borghese is a smaller museum but has the most incredible statues I've ever seen. The Sistine Chapel was not worth it to me even when skipping the line. There was almost no space to physically move in there. Also - it is easy to try to do too much. Plan time to just relax as was noted, eat gelato.
